Wedding in October?

I know it's largely speculation, but I invite you to speculate nonetheless. We're due to get married in mid-October with 140 guests. Deposits were all paid last year before this was a thing. Do we continue to plan it on the assumption we'll be allowed a gathering that big by then? Or does that seem unlikely? Do you think you'd feel comfortable ceilidhing with that many people in October?

If you have any chance to reschedule the party, maybe it's better if you do so.

October is far and 140 people are a lot. Difficult to say what the situation will be. But better safe than sorry...

Might be wise to think of a plan B. There may well be limits on event sizes by then.

Hi, we were due to be married on 11th April,everything was in place, all paid for along with photographers etc etc. we waited until the Venue ( Hotel ) cancelled which was 2 weeks prior, which we felt was going to happen anyway and was a relief as we had guests flying in from all over and their flights were cancelled.

The upside is the Venue were more than happy to rearrange unti April 2021, transferred all the rooms booked out to the new date, everything else was transferred to the new date and it didn't cost a penny more !. Yes we were gutted, 2 years of planning and our big day was cancelled but we have another 12 months to make more memories and look forward to it all over again xx

I have a niece who was getting married in October,she cancelled it.I believe her insurance covered any costs.Reason being a lot of people would be coming from overseas

In my honest opinion i think you are being a bit optimistic. I have a holiday booked for sept which i rescheduled last month. Now thinking that was optimistic.

I think it's unlikely that gatherings that big will be allowed, but not out the question. I've seen bigger events rescheduled for september, but they aren't acting on any knowledge you and i don't have.

I guess the questions would be:

- How many guests could you fit and maintain 2m?

- How upset would you be if you had to get married in 2021 assuming not much financial impact?

I'm thinking that large social gatherings are quite likely to still be subject to some controls. I'd be concerned if it was my wedding event and would plan for an alternative as a likely safer outcome. We just don't know atm but the government medical advisor warned this week that some social restrictions should be expected for the rest of the year.

Late to the party as normal, I work in the wedding industry and my May and June brides have been rescheduled to August and September, you may have to drop your numbers or reschedule but so far August and onwards looks busy for us just one bride in July left to either reschedule or go ahead but her venue is closed till end of June so won't know anything till then, insurance aren't paying out cos its classed as a new virus so either wait for government guidance or for venue to ask you to move days or cut numbers

140, you may need to cut a few if churches are allowed to hold them or reception venues are allowed to, but I wish you well with your nuptials and hope all goes well.

I can’t see it. Ours was in March so we moved it to next March 2021. Currently, I’m 50:50 it will happen as planned. There will almost certainly be no vaccine by then so I can’t see big gatherings being allowed. Our plan is to get married (if able) whether the wedding party can happen or not. Then sort the party out for whenever, if not March.

With that many guests I'd say you might be better off rescheduling your wedding for Oct 21.

They've already said social distancing will be in place for the foreseeable unless a vaccine or cure is in place.

Why not cancel the farce and just do it over the counter, complete waste of time and money. I did mine for 500 quid. My sister has recently spent 20k, I told her before you would regret it and guess what she does. Go on a round the world trip when all this is over. The memories will be better

We ended up pushing it out to mid-October this year (2021), but here we are again, still not clear what October's going to look like for weddings. We'll likely be allowed the numbers but do you think we'll get a ceilidh? And how would you feel if you were invited to a large wedding and ceilidh for October? Should we cut to just close family with no dancing?

Of course it's impossible to predict, but I think you will be allowed as many people as you like to attend and it will all go smoothly. I would continue (personally) to plan, but may be make sure that everything is refundable or changeable should that be necessary.
