"Great letter in today’s paper: Many people have sold their homes to pay for their stay in a care home. Surely these private businesses should provide their own PPE and not rely on the NHS to provide them free, subsidising the businesses" I mentioned this before..what type of responsibility do the gmnt have re social care?

"It would be interesting to know HOW MUCH stock these had, as a matter of routine." Probably buy like groceries...little more then a few weeks supply. But it has rocketed in price and very little stock to buy. Not really thier fault so it's pointless just looking for SOMEONE to lash out at

"There's global competition for supplies and the government remains responsible for the health of the nation. It would be irresponsible, at best, to knowingly let residents remain in homes, rather than be in hospital, whilst staff can pick up the infection or pass it on to others. Published death rates have excluded those from care homes at daily briefings but hundreds have died, many more infected. It's obvious that we need a drastic change to our social care system, with greater state investment and involvement. We can change some things now. " A lot of people get very rich running care homes, go down any sea front and see how much money worth of property are in the care sector. Why have we let this go on for so long, time to bring it into public sector and save some money plus lives.

So what you may may think is a private home isn't as cut and dry as you may think it is, financial wise

Going to be hard because it's big business now.

Yes we all know you have to work to standards, but how much of the charges for care are creamed off to pay owner's. After all they are there to make a profit.

" but how much of the charges for care are creamed off to pay owner's. After all they are there to make a profit. " FYI 600 new care homes opened last year but 900 shut because of financial pressures. As a get rich scheme it's sorely lacking. Also remember this isn't a 9-5 job, a care home has to be staffed 24 hours a day, so their staff g costs are 3x that of a 9-5 business. Professional fees, insurance, compliance with local authority and CQC requirements also adds to this expense.
