Yup

But those things weren't doing the human race any favours before covid

We think we're smarter than mother nature

Now, we're learning the hard way

Unfortunately the structures of the capitalist system we live in won't let people do nothing indefinitely.

No system in the existence of human kind allows this let alone capitalism.

The world just wants to get back to making things people don't need so a few at the top can have more money then thay can ever spend.

When was the last time you got a new television as your old one stopped working or a new bath as the old one was leaking.

Saying that most things today are not made to last or how would thay sell you a new one.

It's not that simple. The virus would still spread via the people who are caring for those who have it, people who work in shops, transport workers etc.

Totally agree.

Without wanting to sound smug I am one of those rare individuals that uses things until they are no longer usable.

Boiler 25years old and beyond repair before new one fitted.

Fridge freezer 17years before it went pop

Washing machine 10 years

Sofa is 17 years old

Car was 16 years old and had 250k

Before it went pop also...

I believe in repair before replacing.

Unfortunately we live in a throwaway culture it appears that human life is also part of this and meaningless to lots now.

If properly controlled and procedures followed it would be containable.

Unfortunately as I said arrogance and ignorance always seem to be the easiest option with greed by the higher powers overruling everything else.

Is there not an element of those in all of us Op..?

We are happy by and large to see the environment, the natural world and its inhabitants pay a high price for 'mans' progress at all costs..

We buy 'fashion' from companies made in factories with conditions and wages we won't rightly have here, when one burns and scores die another opens..

Then it's thrown away..

Just one example but when a tiny microbe comes along and causes mayhem we or some people struggle that we as the dominant species somehow are not above the consequences of such things..

It should be a wake up call but I doubt it..

Said the man using the internet on a website born out of a capitalist agenda?

And the point is not that capitalism isn't flawed or I'm guessing in your opinion evil, it's just there is no system ever that allows people to do nothing.

Do you think amazonian tribes simply sit around and food lands on there laps. No... they have a higher archery structure. The males go hunt, the females tend to camp and prepare the food, the elders look after the children. Do you think they simply allow someone to say "nope" I'm not hunting but I still want to eat and live here.. not a chance. Everyone contributes, in it's most simplistic form that is the basis of any capitalist structure. Goods provided and services rendered.

Just our opinion of course comrade.

Issue is that profit and it's twin brother greed are the only things that matter. Anything else; any kind of humanity, the condition of the planet, etc. are very poor seconds.

That's a totally different point altogether, looking after the planet has little to do with a capitalist structure. Any structure could be guilty of this we simply can't measure that as capitalism is the leading model.

Any how, it's been a pleasure having the conversation with you and we genuinely respect your perspective, if you can beat the system and find a solution you'll get our vote.

It really isn't. Capitalism isn't about everyone contributing, it's about valuing money and profit above all. In your rainforest example, capitalism would be a few individuals gaining control of the local resources and selling them to everyone else, and some people being unable to afford them.

Capitalism is nothing to do with everyone having a role.

Unless you shut every single person in the world into their own home for at least three weeks then no it cant contained. During those three weeks all those in hospital would probably die, there would be no water, no power and no food, just how many would that kill.

You cant uninvent the wheel
