It seems to differ in a big way from store to store...the one closest to me being the worst...

Our Aldi has a queue round the carpark and onto the main road, Radford Coventry.

I just turn round and go Tesco, further away but easier

Seems it's up to supermarkets if they want to control the queues or just ask people to observe social distancing.

Just go to a shop where you feel comfortable.

Not like that in my local Aldi today.

I did my shop and it was one person in as one went out, the lady was spraying all trolleys and telling us we can’t go back down an aisle etc.

ASDA was one way in & one way out, and told to stop and wait as so many went in.

Lidl had absolutely no rules in place and I ended up leaving because of how full it was & how close people were to each other, someone coughing made the decision for me.

Similar to me, Aldi and Tesco are about 300 metres apart. Twice now I've gone to Aldi, seen the queue then walked over to Tesco and walked straight in.

Easier but more expensive

So, you're saying the Lidl has changed now and can be used. Sounds good. Neither could beat Netto though

Farnborough

I have found my local Aldi ok and quite responsible with a single shopper, one in, one out approach, and yes I queued for about 5 mins to get in, hey ho, not too much.

What I did find odd was at the checkout.... the cashier quite rightly is behind the protective screen. However I use the expanding trolley bags that you can pack as you checkout ... which makes things easier. I got the bags ready in the trolley - to be told I can’t pack them here, I needed to go to the packing area at the rear!! So had to just put the shopping in the trolley, and then re-pack them into the bags afterwards!

Firstly, loading the shopping into the bags takes no more time then loading them directly into the trolley, and I could have left the shop more quickly. Secondly, I then had to go to the back of the shop - spending more time in the shop, and in proximity of others than I would have done as I then had to re-pack the shopping, and thirdly, I spent more time in the shop than I would have done which likely as not makes waiting time outside longer!

We live in strange times and find ourselves doing things without question we would have thought unthinkable but a month or so ago - but I didn’t say anything, just went along with it .... think I may go to Tesco for the short term, they seem to be far more pragmatic, and have staff on hand to help and direct.

R xx

I also noticed that and the amount off clutter that was on that packing area...it was a badly thought out idea

Aldi are German they've got the virus under control so it must be OK, run around naked in there if you like you'll be safe as houses. They're all bonkers.

most fundamental aspects

I’m a new convert to Aldi

Up until a couple of weeks ago, I always went to my nearest supermarket which is Asda. They then brought in their stupid one way system with no limits on the number of people allowed in. Inside, people just roaming around albeit one way, they were all at different speeds, making even more of a mockery of the one way. After approaching the car park to find it as full as Christmas week, and no sign of queuing outside, I gave up and went to Aldi.

Short queue outside, all trolleys wiped down (Asda had a squirty bottle that no one other than me ever seemed to be using) and a great selection inside.

The thing where you can’t pack your bags at the checkout initially annoyed me as I put the stuff on the belt in the order I’m packing my bags. The packing area was not a good space either. But now that I know, I take the trolley to my car and pack everything at my own pace without the sense I’m holding people up.
