How do you make self raising flour from plain flour? this could be a game changer." All you need to do is add bicarb and baking powder. I googled it a while ago but can’t remember the exact quantities

"yeast.... so started making a sourdough starter. " I ordered a 500g bag of yeast on eBay today. I know it’s a very large bag but we make a lot of bread. Hubby also got strong white flour from the local One Stop convenience store, coop brand which I find slightly odd as we couldn’t get any from coop when we tried

"MacD's said they'd stay closed till Govt says the conditions are right to open. They also did so to keep their staff safe which to be honest, should be a far more important aspect than a Big Mac!" They did it because to mitigate their liability to litigation. Mac d have taken a 1 billion dollar line of credit out after the virus. Like most big firms they are protecting their bottom line and spinning it as a pr stunt.

"Only 4% of UK Flour production goes to all the Supermarkets, in the sized bags we know & buy. The rest is manufactured into large capacity bags or sacks for the Bakeries in supermarkets, independent bakers and related outlets & shops. This was covered in a TV programme a couple of weeks ago, which said the big flour mills are working 24/7, having taken on more staff to allow production to run 24/7. One major flour mill, the biggest in the UK, is producing 110,000 bags a week, but cannot keep up with demand as people resort to home baking." We have two large flour mills in the town where I live and both are running 24/7, one is owned by Hovis and produces only Bread flour all of which leaves the mill in bulk tankers. The other mill is privately owned they also sell mainly in bulk, either tanker or large bags, They do not have sufficient machines to allow increased production of the size bags we look for in supermarkets, When I contacted them about this I was told that I could have 20 ton tanker load within days, I think this was very much tongue in cheek though.
