Hadn't hancock already let the cat out ot the bag on question time.

But the bigger issue to me is not just passing on the PPE and ventilators but then awarding a contract to the Dyson lead consortium. It was widely reported than Boris referred to this as operation last gasp.

Dyson is very like Thomas Edison in that he is only interested in the wealth he can create from patents and his reason for getting into this consortium is to lever his way into an area he has previously been frozen out of - medical equipment supply. He tried to get into electric cars until he realised the patents were all sewn up and he couldn’t make a buck out of it. Big business are not altruistic - just look at Apple making face visors for the US medics and then donating face masks which were destined for Europe, germany in this case, by outbidding the suppliers deal with the german health service. Looks good for Apple and gives them a great bit of PR in the US doesn’t it.

Its certainly possible but also certainly very improbable. It was discussed and minuted in conference calls with the EU.

What is more probable that Boris didn't think it politically expedient to be seen to be co-operating with the EU, but was expedient to go with Tory donor and Brexit supporter, Mr J Dyson.

But there was also a second opportunity to buy ventilators they ignored. Here's the FT article

They can't, they can only use what they are being told from their OWN country, having arseholes making up their own information and spreading it as truth, is only doing harm! I've seen a few people practically salivating at the prospect of trade talks with the EU not being delayed. I think Boris and the government did not want to run the risk of it being seen as weakness working with the EU to procure equipment. I understood that effects of Brexit would be detrimental to a lot of people's lives but this stupid ideology has now actually cost lives.

I understand we voted to leave, I get that but this is just so utterly ridiculous to the point that we would let this stupid sense of exceptionalism cost the lives of our own people. How many more times do we want to punch ourselves in the face and pretend it doesn't hurt?

More of the article the OP linked to...

The EU procurement scheme has not been entirely successful, however. While deliveries of masks, gowns and gloves will be made in tranches over the next two to 18 weeks, the procurement of ventilators will be slow, according to a leaked EU document.

“Companies indicated long delivery times, from 10 to 52 weeks,” the commission warned member states of the £690m purchase.

So doesn't look like it would have helped the immediate situation.

Would you imagine how this govern could possibly go on with Brexit after proving that UK is not even able to buy PPE without EU?

They will never join any scheme.

It's easier to say that there is no shortage of PPE and nurses are idiots who can't use them properly than admitting that this country can't stand on its own leg alone in a crisis.

Highlighting the urgency of the British situation, the German ministry said it would not invoice the UK for the ventilators, which are made by two specialist German manufacturers, Dräger and Weinmann.

At present the NHS has about 10,000 ventilators available, but Matt Hancock, the health secretary, has said that 18,000 are needed to ensure there will be ample capacity in seven to 10 days, when it is believed case numbers will peak.

So what about 2 - 18 weeks for PPE deliveries, not media statement, not google info. It is info direct from EU. Yes it is in tranches, but doesn't say what and how many. Could it be they are struggling to source PPE?

And a massive thanks to Germany for them, and for Turkey for their PPE donations. Everyone needs to help everyone.

No I can totally understand the position. The EU understood the snub for what it was. The EU took the position that our government didn't want to help themselves. If someone is too proud to accept help, no one is going to beg them.

If Brexit comes before British lives. Then we will die.

"He who shouts the loudest is the one who's in control

We who never listen are the ones who pay the toll"Right so someone assumed it was a snub and said fuck it they have left anyway so i wont bother checking?I can see your position now you work on assumptions, its a good job others dont.

Do you really believe that EU should have insisted on sending emails to UK asking if they wanted to join the scheme after being ignored?

Why? If UK doesn't care enough about PPE to keep an eye on the scheme they were aware of, why should EU care?If you were running a business and sent a customer an email inviting them to some scheme and didnt get a reply would you.

a) assume they were not interested or b)make a call and ask them why they didnt reply? "

I have been on the other side of this and calling me after I ignored you spam e-mail is the quickest way to make me start considering alternative suppliers.

Anyway EU wasn't try to sell anything.

If I start a thread here asking who wants to buy masks with me I'm not going to PM every single user who doesn't replay to the thread. That is called spam!

"More of the article the OP linked to...

Germany has so many ventilators left over they donated free of charge 60 portable ventilators from the German army to our country.

That dog won't hunt.

Everyone needs to help everyone."

Germany for example, had 1,353 new cases today and only 96 deaths. They aren't going through PPE like us.

Of course there are other countries like France still struggling but they are part of a wonderful pool of resources called the EU. We should look at seeing if we can buy into that scheme

Basically those 2 - 18 weeks are to replace the current stock levels so they don't run out. What a strange concept, buying before you run out.

Consider also that if the EU with all their collective buying power can only secure that time period, how screwed we are.

I would if that info was on the news and newspapers.

"Asked why the UK was not taking part in the EU scheme, the prime minister’s official spokesman had earlier said: “We are no longer members of the EU.” He stressed that the UK was “making our own efforts” in this area"

Does that sound like an email mixup or the EU being told to f-off?

Good question.

Also where did all the beds the Chinese had in their makeshift hospitals go to?

Idiots are people who get told one thing today and a contradictory story the next day that makes no sense whatsoever. And still believe both lies.

This dispite irrefutable evidence to the contrary.

After reading this thread.

An old saying of my grans comes to mind

People should never assume anything

As it only makes an

Assout of u and me.

All this blame game is getting us no where. Unless you have all the facts you should no assume things are the truth.

For a swingers site there is all to much political agendas and misdirected blame going on.

Now is not the time to throw shit around hoping it will stick.

There will be time enough for that if and when the world gets this pandemic under control.

I for one am glad i do not subscribe to other forms of social media and have a brain of my own. It is time to look out for one another family friends neighbours because every death is one too many. But unless we all stand together then in the end none of us will be standing.who is going to bury the last victim if there is no one left.

Who is assuming anything? No government source is denying the contents of the article. Scrutiny saves lives, not a free pass to continue with behaviour that is detrimental to the people of this country

"When will the EU joint procurement scheme receive delivery of their order ?"

Italy already received 2 million surgical masks, and 200000 N95 masks from China through EU. I'm not sure if this is part of the procurement scheme or if it's a separate thing, but still...

"Anyone who believes the email story should also start believing that the tooth fairy exists, that Elvis is still alive in Vegas and that there are weapons of mass destriction in Iraq..."

What do you mean the tooth fairy doesn't exist? Next you'll be making even more ridiculous claims like the Easter Bunny is fake news and Santa is just a myth. Shame on you.

It's also well known that Elvis was alive and hiding in China but that now he's dead because he was actually patient zero and caught the virus while watching an old episode of Batman through a streaming service accessed via 5G.

The only centiler of truth in your whole post is the bit about Iraq and weapons of mass destruction. Did you just add that to add to the credibility of the rest of your post? How easily lead to you think we are?
