"Nope. And if you think it’s a virus from a lab there are lots of studies saying it’s natural. This is one, there are plenty more. https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/the-new-coronavirus-was-not-genetically-engineered-study-shows#Ending-the-rumors-about-SARS-CoV-2-" I don't believe it was engineered, however I do think that some of the figures released of infected in some countries have been unrealistic compared to population and concentrations of that population.

"If you dont think theres more to this, see how many deaths there were in Beijing and Shanghai, you,ll be very surprised, less than 20. Notice how China and North Koreas economy is growing whilst the rest of the worlds economy is slowing right down. " Right ...... and uhmmmmmm who is buying their stuff ???

"China has now begun to relax some restrictions as the rest of the wourld is hit hard. As the originator of the virus, do you think there may have been more to it than a random infection ? " No. As others have said, I do think that they have underreported ths impact. However, unless you test everyone and record every COVID-19 death, you can't have accurate figures. Some countries have more accurately reported and recorded than others. The UK isn't very accurate...

"we will probably never know, but remain suspicious. I wouldn't just put the blame on China though. And as for our Governments response- pathetic. New Zealand has had 2 deaths. Sadly at this time we chose to elect a clown who only had to say three words to convince us that was all that mattered. " Yes but New Zealand is an island. It's far easier to do border control when your country is an island. Look at Hong Kong, Taiwan etc. Even South Korea who only have one border...

So you’re saying that Britain’s response would have been better IF it had been an island?..... seriously?" I think you're overlooking the land border with Ireland but at the same time you bring up an very interesting point to the table. Northern Ireland was looking in 2 directions back in early march. Dublin was saying this is very serious and started to take steps to deal with CV19. London was still business as usual. The result of this was Northern Ireland acting earlier than England, Scotland and Wales. While I know population density here is way lower than the UK, taking action 2 weeks earlier seems to have reduced the impact of CV19.

So you’re saying that Britain’s response would have been better IF it had been an island?..... seriously?" Not so long ago there waa a list of places not infected by COVID-19. Most of them were islands. Simply put if you can't get through an airport or a harbour you can't bring COVID-19 into a country. Other countries have foot traffic issues and it's generally easier to drive over borders that to fly or boat. All this is immaterial. For some undisclosed, undiscussed, reason there has always been a shortage of testing ability. Without this any strategy was doomed to failure.

"I think to an extent though figures like "the highest number of deaths" is a bit of a blind alley, since there are too many unknowns. Chiefly, we don't have acccurate figures, neither for here nor any other country we want to compare to, because we only know how many people have been admitted to hospital with it, or tested positive for it. There could be thousands who have no symptoms, or who just stayed at home with a 'bit of a cold'. Some countries seem to only be counting it as a cause of death if there were no other causes, some record it if the deceased had it but there were other factors which caused their death. Different countries report the stats in different ways, which also makes it hard to compare, and no doubt some are putting more spin on them than others. We could spend years debating whether we should have done X instead of Y, and you can guarantee that if we had done X, there would be an equal number saying we should have done Y instead. Equally, other countries are probably all saying the same, looking elsewhere and saying "they did better/differently, why didn't we?" Getting bogged down in conspiracy theories isn't going to help anything. " Really? There which country apart from ourselves went with the herd immunity strategy? There isn't really a debate. We have death statistics that tell the story of our performance.

We have death statistics that tell the story of our performance. " But those staristics will only ever tell part of the story. We could have twice as many deaths as another country, but have five times as many infected people who just don't know they have it because they weren't tested and didn't die. Equally, we might only have half the number of unconfirmed cases. As is often the case with figures, what we don't know can be just as important as what we do.
