I think all front line staff should be given a medal that have had to deal with the virus and the one we have lost a gold type but not the managers unless they were on the front line if so must press our MP to do this.

I don't think it would be unfair for the front line workers to have a years tax exemption. you have people at home on 80% wages or self employed getting help and nurses on fairly low wages putting themselves at risk.

I have said for a long time there should be a seperate, lower, tax band for lower income NHS staff. OK the Trusts can't afford the wages but I'd happily pay a bit extra Income Tax to finance their rebated Tax. It would also hopefully help them retain staff from going to Private Healthcare facilities.

I also think Consultants who work for NHS and private should pay higher tax on the private earnings and have an incentive for working more days for the NHS.

Can I add appreciation and understanding to the list? We might be getting it in bucketfuls just now but that wasn't always the case from politicians or far too many of the public. Would be nice after all this that we aren't forgotten about and it goes back to being the thankless task it was a month ago.

Yes. Most key workers. ATM working for no extra, will only get SSP if they have to self isolate.

I suspect after this is over all frontline staff, be it NHS, carers, supermarket staff etc, would want people to treat them with respect, stop being abusive etc.

People need to remember how much pressure has been put on EVERYONE working on the frontline.

In terms of the NHS we can hope that people will use services more appropriately in the future and the government will fund it sufficiently. In my opinion people working in the NHS don't do it for medals or to earn a fortune, they do it because they care

NHS staff do get paid if they're off sick. I think for other sectors your statement could be correct

There will be a lot of mental health issues amongst our frontline staff. In some hospitals they are dealing with a lot of deaths on their shifts. They never really expected to see that.

Doctors are having to break sad need to people over the phones instead of in person.

It’s all extremely sad.

I find this hero status patronising.

Don't create this facade that we as healthcare workers are omnipotent in keeping this little old island afloat.

Simply pay us more money!

Then your see out potential!!

Us nurses put up with significant amounts of pressure and sometimes time is so precious that we never get that support or the needed supervision. Then We go home and deal with more life stuff.

Any way rant over..this abstinence is doing my swede in.

Brilliant idea. Funny enough just finished my night shift and us nurses were discussing this.

When it's under control the government freeze healthcare tax and increase everyone else's.

The NHS has umpteen unseen heroes, including admin & clerical, hotel services, supply chain etc.

They are so often forgotten, yet keep the NHS heart beating strong.

So I salute every one of them

Sadly the government laughed and cheered when the defeated the bill for this.

Good job MPs are getting an extra £10,000 to work from home though.

Actually that's not correct. Contracted staff do receive full pay but for a limited time depending on length of service.

On joining, that 1 months full pay followed by 1 month half pay. This is also impacted on sickness records. And given that it's a stressful job with crap pay it's likely there's been some sickness etc.

Bank support staff get bugger all. Nothing.

Of course different trusts will have different policies so it's likely that other trusts may pay more over a greater length of time.

I for one one do not want this hero status. All the freebies are very sweet. Dedicated shopping is great more so to protect the general public from us high risk carriers.

What I love is seeing the rainbows on the windows and on the pavements. Kids sending us pictures in.

In the 23 years I’ve been nursing and I have never felt valued or appreciated like now and I know it will be forgotten as quickly as it came. After all this can people think about whether they need to go to A&E. can people not abuse staff. Can we start taking responsibility for our own health.

I take the clapping on a Thursday for all key workers that are out there legitimately.

All this lower tax and more pay will never materialise. What should materialise is the number of people in a hospital who dint need a big fancy office to get the work done or whether we need all these middle managers. That will save money.

Please can you just be kind to us when this is over. A smile and a thank you goes more than you will ever know.
