The warmer it is the more people are out. Roads chocka today....actual traffic! Every shop I drove past was heaving and queued down the street.

What is so difficult about "stay at home"....... what does it take for people to stay in?

I dont care its sunny or your bairn wanted an ice lolly or your your pal is having a BBQ..... stop just stop

There needs to be a clamp down, the government seem to be in a bit of limbo albeit understandable given Boris is in hospital but they need to come out and say this lockdown is being extended till whenever..

And they need to start enforcement of the legislation the police have which seems to be hit and miss between forces in their interpretation..

Some people amongst us are completely stupid to the risks and the possible consequences which is staggering and are simply not listening..

Think the government need to take a closer look at how many people are still going out to work because their employer thinks it’s ok to carry on so you may find it’s those people that are getting their shopping in before they go to work as the weathers good they won’t want to be calling after work when there’s probably not much left.

Central

Many people dislike poor weather conditions for their driving, so good weather prompts them to make their essential and other journeys. Most people have to visit shops at least weekly for food, depending on food freshness, storage facilities etc.

If it snowed tomorrow, far fewer people would be out, as they'd delay for a short while, until the highly likely better weather returned.

Every home is different and its people may face different challenges, including illness, facilities breaking etc.

Shorter-term variability is natural and to be expected. It's also reasonable that as lockdown continues, unexpected needs arise for people, spurring them to have to take action. In short, people just going about their new normal lifestyles will potentially be perceived as in the wrong, if they are not given the freedom to continue to manage their lives when they are different to others. We have to find tolerance in our hearts and it's still likely just a very tiny minority who are breaking the law here.

Lifes departure lounge NN9 Northamptonshire East not West MidlandsMidlands

There are 168 hours in a week and I make no apologies for being out for 14 hours doing the following:

Shop for food and medications for myself

Shop for food and medications for my neighbours, both pensioners, both with cancer, and both on a 12 week lockdown.

And finally I shop for two disabled pensioners, one of whom also has learning difficulties, who are housebound and who seem to have been forgotton by social services.

So if you see me driving down the road please think before you condemn me as one of those stupid people ignoring the lockdown.

I am by the way an 80 yr old pensioner.

I haven't condemned anyone ....

I am condemning those in supermarkets buying ice cream to sit in the park or popping to their mates with a crate of beer.

Leaving for essentials whether that be for your own home or a vulnerable persons is entirely different.

Before I comment

Please be 100 percent certain I totally agree with the lockdown

Please be 100 percent certain I think we are being too lax

Please be 100 percent certain I would stop most public transportation

I think 2 m is not enough and I would be be consulting upon how we can increase the supply of more ppe for more people and training

Now that said

What is it that "we" think these measures achieve?

My understanding is the lockdown absolutely will not stop the virus my understanding is to do that is nigh on impossible

My understanding is the lockdown quite rightly is there to permit a managed number of seriously infected be treated adequately by our NHS so they can survive

It however will conversely mean a LONGER time in lockdown the better people adhere to the rules the less will get it meaning more will still be vulnerable any time we relax rules

Until a vaccine is made we are hoping it's a single hit wonder

Until a vaccination OR over 20 ?30 million 40 million ??????????? Have had it social restrictions will be required to prevent an NHS overload

This is a balancing act with no precise answer until a vaccine

It appears and I do so hope I'm wrong

The more strict we are the better survivability for a vulnerable 20 percent and it helps the NHS but conversely the longer liberties will be removed

Ie imo beyond xmas at current rate of infection

It seems some feel a severe lock down means the virus will vanish and normality can resume more quickly

If only that were the case

Please prove my hypothesis incorrect

I actually went to the asda after work yesterday and was fuming that queues where inside the shop rather than outside

The aisles are very narrow forcing people with trolleys to push past to get to shelves

No screens round the tills and no one cleaning the baskets

My friend, who is a nurse has just phoned me in frustration at this. She has just driven back from the hospital and said there are people everywhere. Large groups of adults with children therefore not from the same household, going into shops in pairs, a lot more traffic on the roads. They don’t listen.

The only way to solve it is totally lockdown. Forget the exercise hour. Stop people going out. I get and understand the difficulties however if we carry on like this the longer it will go on and the worse it will be.

They have a one way system in our Asda if you miss something you have to go all the way back around and people queuing one way down an isle with people going up it the other so only 2ft apart and can’t get anything where the queue is lol but same here no queue outside only in but they are wiping the trolley for you before you go in.

Because . . .

"Step into the world almost anywhere, even a densely packed city of concrete and steel, and if you are observant you’ll witness the extraordinary phenomenon of life. The world is pulsing and quivering with the animated cascade of molecular machinery that constitutes living systems.

Your own body is a mass of some 37 trillion cells (a number still notoriously difficult to compute) – varied in structure, purpose, and behavior. These cells have grown out of a single zygote, a genetic blending of your parents that has doubled, quadrupled, and grown exponentially in number. Your brain is a precisely crumpled sheet of some 86 billion spindly, creepy-looking neurons formed during your embryonic state in an astonishing bacchanal of cells racing up a three millimeter neural tube at an average rate of 250,000 per minute. Your heart is a tuned, auto-correcting, self-squeezing engine of about 2 billion cells.

Added to these human cells are the cells of your microbial companions, probably at least as many again as your own. The human microbiome is an essential part of who we are, just as we are of what it is. On and within us is a ceaseless chatter of molecular signaling and one-upmanship, of small and large conflicts and emergent mutualisms. All coming together in a perilously balanced equilibrium that makes you, well, you.

Any other living thing that you can see is the same. And unseen but flooding the air, water, and ground, are yet more organisms and viral sub-organisms. The vast majority of these microscopic entities have no need for us, and are busy extracting and excreting the chemical pieces in processes that have sustained life and sculpted the planet for the past four billion years.

As much as any of us is part of this lineage, we are also undeniably unusual in our capacity to process information in the most novel ways. We are a cognitive species. We compute and we cogitate. Somehow, in a way that no scientist, philosopher or scholar has yet adequately explained, we appear to have the capacity to understand and recognize the nature of our existence, and of the deeper mechanics of the world. The thing we call ‘reality’ may still elude us in many respects, but we have discovered logic, mathematics, physics, and other pieces of the puzzle of the emergence of complexity in the universe.

And yet.

Do we seize this remarkable and unexpected opportunity that the cosmos has unintentionally thrown to us? Do we grab onto every moment of each of our lives and gorge on the banquet of knowledge and meaning staring us in the face? In order to learn and to prosper as surprised children of a formless Big Bang?

Nope. Not really.

Instead, as we all know, we create a mess of problems. We make too many humans, we don’t feed each other properly, we bicker, we argue, we wage war, and we willfully deny so much of reality – we make ignorance into a vocation."

From scientific American.

I think it's because it's not visible enough. When the bodies were piling up in Italy a month ago it was all over the news, pictures of coffins being moved by forklifts, army trucks Full etc.

I've just listened to the 9am news on the radio and the 900 dead yesterday was the 3rd item. I don't care about Johnson being out of the ICU, 900 other people and their families are more important than him today.

I'm a bit confused by all this. Anyone who doesn't practice social distancing is a selfish so and so, endangering our vulnerable, putting undue stress on the NHS..... unless it's the PM, leading by example shaking hands in hospitals. Now he's a hero who "took one for the team".

I get that people do physical work that can't be done from home. Politics don't fall into that category. In fact the entire parliament can be put on hold to prepare for the queens speech if I remember correctly.

For me this doesn't add up.

Having now known of 2 healthy 37/38 year old men in ICU in my social circle, one woman my age (42) who has been struggling to breathe properly/get out of bed for 10 days, I just will not be risking anything unnecessarily and going out. It really brings it home when it's someone without underlying conditions and a similar age.

Also, for anyone out there, a friend is a paediatric consultant and she said too many parents are worried to bring their kids into hospitals for any other ailments and as such, they are extremely ill when they do come in. So if your kids aren't well, just get them checked out.

Boris is still being consulted while in Hospital.

I don't have to defend myself. But I am doing volunteer work during time when I could be earning money.

I am commenting on a swinging site because I actually swing. The post I am responding to is also on a swinging site. Is this irony on irony.

The COVID-19 is not in power the whole world over. New Zealand had no deaths yesterday. Australia had one. They took action when we didn't.

Thinking one is right when one is wrong. Well isn't that ironic?

I state a point of view and back it up where where required with links to news articles. This is in stark contrast to personal attacks, belittling other people's posts and being bitchy. Which I was under the impression was against forum rules but apparently not.

Is it not a healthy psychological condition to reason rationalise understand and objectively find positives in any situation

It think it disingenuous to suggest understanding positives in anyway diminishes the gravity or seriousness of any tradigdy

However humans are often sadly thrown into tragic circumstances it's not unreasonable for them to find a positive coping mechanism

Each year in the UK tragically for each circumstance around 700 000 people die

And positively around the same born

It seems this year will be extra tragic

But perspective can help the human brain remain calm

I feel we will be dealing with this tragic position for many months .

Deaths are inevitable psychologicall torture is also inevitable

Humans finding ways to rationalise inevitable

I do find it curious

The third world has been tortured by plagues and very poor health care annually all my life

Maleria tb and others are still rife however it seems as it does not effect the rich countries it's no biggy

Just some perspective

Any life lost is tragic for someone

Some lives lost we must accept as the passing of life (old age)

And some seem without any justification

So yes let's as a positive after this recognise child deaths across the poor world are a needless tragedy one worth sacrificing our liberties and finances for no more but no less than Bob in Manchester aged 54

It's a fair argument, but pointing out mistakes made is not negativity. It's actually a positive step towards fixing a problem that exists, whereas denying a problem exists and attaching negative labels and launching personal attacks on people who point out those shortcomings is a negative process no matter how it is surrounded by an overuse of smiling/laughing emojis.

Being bitchy is firstly negative and secondly against forum rules.
