Supermarkets no longer have priority queuing for nhs keyworkers

I have created a petition to ask supermarkets to bring back priority queuing for nhs keyworkers. The NHS need to keep working, they are short staffed, over worked (often doing 14 hour shifts back to back. So starting at 7 am finish 10 pm so the allocated time slots are impractical for most nhs staff. Especially 24 hr supermarkets are now closing at 10 pm)

I think people don't realise this has recently happened and don't realise some of the poor elderly living on their own, solely relying on their home help to bring them food cannot buy their shopping because of the queues. They only have 1 hour allocated calls once a week to get their shopping. Stressed out staff and the vunerable who could potentially go malnourished because supermarkets like Tesco stopped priority queuing. May I be allowed to share this petition on here as I'm trying to get more supporters. Much appreciated

Hopefully all the idiots who seemed to think they'd need a tonne of loo roll and a million tins of corned beef have by now, got all their stocks in,the panic buying is over, the supermarkets are reasonably well stocked and there is enough for everyone.

Hopefully that is the case and there is no need for additional measures.

This is an update I’ve received, although not key worker related, but shows how the supermarkets are trying their best:

Last Thursday, we were given an initial list of 110,000 clinically vulnerable and isolated people by the Government. From this list, we were able to match 75,000 existing customers and we’ve already let them know we’re making home delivery slots immediately available to them. We’ll continue to work through this list, and as we receive more data from Government, we’ll make even more slots available.

We have increased our online delivery slots by 145,000 (+20%) in the last two weeks with thousands more becoming available every day. We know it’s still difficult to get an online delivery slot due to high demand, so we are asking those customers who are able to safely come to stores to do so, to free up more slots for the more vulnerable.

I'm a carer in the community and when we have shopping calls we just have to show our Identity pass and we are allowed in any time though out thr day here

I work in a supermarket and we are still doing priority shopping for the nhs and carers for 6days a week 7:30-8:00 am and then elderly and vulnerable 8-9am 3days a week

All supermarkets by mine are also still doing priority hours for key workers. And nhs can go straight in on showing their lanyard as evidence.

We still have NHS priority hours. Sun, Tue and Thurs 9-10. We even dedicated extra hours to ensure every checkout is open. The field hospitals are also getting pop up shops so they don't have to go shopping on a different day or after work. We are also donating ingredients/meals for 1 million nutritional meals to the NHS. Delivery started yesterday.

They walk straight in with their badges. I'm not sure what's happened around you. Have you actually made enquiries to confirm your post?

I'm lucky as my shift is 19.30 till 07.30 so I do manage to get in sainsbury's at there nhs/carers time 07.30-8am

So I am very grateful to them for doing this in my case

Although it's not good for people that finish at 8am

I have seen community carers being allowed in at anytime,when they speak to security

Having had letters from the GP surgury, hospital and Ministry of Communities that my father is in the shielded category, my parents can't get a prioritised delivery

slot from their usual supermarket. Fortunately, I can help out but how many shielded people don't have that support?

Must been north and south thing as only aldi is offering this service. Time slots don't work for people who provide 24 hr care etc

So.... my understanding is... the doors open to the group of people most likely exposed to the virus.... followed (though imagining there’s some crossover) by the people most vulnerable to the virus? Who on earth cloud possibly think this is a good idea?

Went to Tesco this morning where there was a quite long queue - I'd say about 30 minutes. I was let straight in because I had a letter saying I was shopping for work. It wasn't for my own stuff.

When did it stop? Ive been on a Wednesday to asda and sunday to teaso just showed my ID got thanked for my hard work (very embarrassing) and let in without queuing...

My sister works front line and won’t ever go to front. She sees this as being “ we are all in this together”. She’s started to take her lanyard off (she wears her own clothes) so no one would know unless she had this on.
