Haven't checked to see if it's true (re calls to resign) but it's no worse than prince Charles going to one of his "second" homes , did the Scottish police visit him and give a warning?

He had already been there for three weeks before lockdown came in....and he stayed there like a good boy... As the Queen went to Windsor a week before lockdown.

The irony I was planning a trip to Scotland this year as I've never been there and I have some celtic roots on my mum's side. I've postponed it to 2021.

Shhhhh my analogy sounded good, don't spoil it .

A means tested fine (because she should know better and will be seen as a role model) would be more than sufficient. No one else is getting the sack when they flout the rules, they get warnings/fined.

Should have... but as we are learning 'mistakes' are easy to spot in hindsight. Please accept my apology.

This Calderwood specimen has just said in press conference she was off to her Fife holiday home last weekend too.

It wasn't a one off.

Made police job much harder. Put NHS staff at increased risk.

A worrying lack of talent in depth if she remains.

Most not some, but that's besides the point. She's the one giving Scottish people health advice on this virus, believe me lots of academics do stupid things. However, when your decisions directly contrivine what you say in a public when you represent the public surely that conflict of interest brings your credibility into scrutiny, she'll lose her job over this.

Absolutely correct. With all the effort being put into to limiting CV-19 spread through the lockdown procedures, to have a leading medical scientist and one who is specifically advising the Scottish Gov't undermine the guidance, demonstrates the worst type of leadership imaginable.

Scottish CMO to be withdrawn from media briefings

Scotland’s chief medical officer is withdrawing from daily media briefings during the coronavirus pandemic, after it emerged she had twice visited her family’s second home in Fife.

Dr Calderwood will remain in the post and continue advising the Scottish Government, but the current advertising campaign which features her will now be revised, according to first minister Nicola Sturgeon.

In a statement after Sunday’s excruciating briefing, Sturgeon said:

I am acutely aware of the importance of public trust in the advice the government is giving to stay at home in order to save lives and protect our NHS.

To maintain that trust we will be revising our public information campaign and the chief medical officer will be withdrawing from media briefings for the foreseeable future. She will continue to provide the Scottish government with the scientific and medical advice on the spread of coronavirus.

Sacking her is entirely sensible as others have said. She ought to resign.

Perhaps she is irreplaceable and so cannot be allowed to go. I wonder if she has information other senior public health staff are not privy to.

At least she will be pulled from tv and radio adverts. There were literally people laughing in the supermarket aisles today as she spoke.

Yes. This is a time where the people deserve absolute integrity from the ones they have chosen to lead the country. The ones at the top have been awarded a great privilege by the people, and with that privilege comes an enormous responsibility. This is a time of life and death, an invisible threat that is none the less probably more serious than anything that any of us have experienced during our lifetimes. Those in high office have been honoured their positions; they must now show that they are worthy of that honour. The people who actually keep the country running are laying their lives on the line - the ones on high asking for sacrifices to be made must lead by example. Those who prove unworthy of their positions should be MADE an example.

Totally disagree, she was in the horrible position of having to get rid of her CMO who up until Sunday was held in high respect by all Scottish Political parties. It is not a good thing to have to change your CMO at really short notice.

In the end i think when she weighed things up she realised that it was more damaging for fight against virus to keep her on and she had to go.

If every PM/FM/President who has made a mistake during this epidemic was to resign we would literally have no one left at current time.
