"The PFA has rejected calls for top flight players to take a 30% payout saying it will lower the tax revenue by £200m which could be used for the NHS.....of course could take they pay, which then keeps the £200m going to the government then gift the remaining £300m back to their clubs to keep the cleaners and other low paid workers in jobs.....which also means they don't need to be furloughed and the government pay out even more which in turn keeps more money for the NHS. Or the top players can keep the money and buy another new ferrari! It’s their money I don’t have an issue with other people’s wealth " exactly it seems footballers are the target at the moment I wonder how many of the rich bankers and mps are taking a pay cut I’ve noticed tv stars movie stars and musicians are getting a bit of a free pass

"Even whilst he's got the virus Cummings is at work, sow some division to deflect mistakes made.. Not seen any mention of similar such pay cuts for the tories multi millionaire backers and others.. Maybe the government could after this actually clamp down on the multinationals who evade tax? " Couldn’t agree more. I personally would take a pay cut if I was a professional footballer given the sums they earn but it’s galling watching Tories now advocate what is tantamount to redistributive taxation given that’s entirely at odds with their ethos! Where was this effort to fund the NHS and ask billionaire Tory donors to pay their fair share before? ![]()

You're quite right, why are footballers singled out, just because they're in the public eye and seen as reckless with (their own) money whilst far richer individuals carry on regardless.

"The Spurs Chairma, Daniel Levy, pays himself £7 million. Christiano Ronaldo gets £9 million over three months. (happily he's not taking this) The amounts are staggeringly eye-opening. " Denise Coates who owns bet365, was paid over £300 million last year and is worth £12 billion, she makes Ronaldo look like a pauper! She did pay a fortune in income tax though ![]()

"Don’t be fooled by the diversion ! This isn’t a story about taxation . Tell me you think it’s acceptable for a football club that is able to pay 11 men, 6million pounds a month to kick a ball around and yet go cap in hand to the british tax payer for 80% of 400+ non-playing staff wages. Checks and balances ! The PFA are cleverly diverting our stare away from what is actually a disgusting abuse of a system set up to support those who absolutely need it." Summed up perfectly ![]()
