I have noticed checkout staff in tesco Galashiels wearing protective gloves while serving customers. while l applaud their efforts in keeping safe they are actually posing a bigger risk to their customers as their actions could pose a cross contamination risk as they do not appear to be changing these cloves after every customer and therefore could actually be spreading the virus between customers.

Maybe that's the next lockdown measure, closing the doors on supermarkets and staff get what you need, or.. Only allowing in certain amount of people in at a time.. Probably would help by doing this

Staff getting what you need same gloves then OK but as for only letting limited amount of customers in at once still then poses same risk unless they change gloves and wash hands

I imagine the gloves are for their protection. It's down to the customers to either wear their own gloves or ensure they don't touch their face until they can sanitise or wash their hands.

I guess the gloves issue is down to the common sense of the employee and encouragment from management about strict hygiene regulations for the supermarket in relation to the thread, my original comment was thinking ahead for supermarkets and stricter government lockdown rules that will help minimising the spread of the virus

We should be washing our goods in hot soapy water when we get home as you have no idea who has touched them. We don’t buy unpackaged goods such as fresh veg at the moment anyway.

I haven't seen anyone working in shops with gloves or masks on around here.

I was wearing gloves but ran out and now I spray my hands with Dettol before and after I go shopping.

In all honesty unless you have cuts etc gloves do nothing to protect anyone. However they do help the team as continuously washing hands isnt exactly good for the skin. My team just use the sanitiser on the gloves. They also improve moral with the team,they feel it is safer even if it is just a placebo really.

What annoyed me today was when I was queuing up to get into the shop some people were huddled up against the back of me when there were clear lines on the floor showing the 2 meter distance.

That is what they are designed for but it requires everyone to wear them to be effective not just a few people.

But remember masks are actually to be worn to protect others too. Filters with n95 or over grading will protect you from the virus. Don't forget people spray saliva from just talking. To fully protect you from contracting the virus if you walk past someone who just sneezed or cough, you need to wear grade n95 masks and glasses. Hence why the cashier have shields but i don't think it gives them complete protection as it only shields them from one angle. They also meant to be santinising the conveyer belts and their gloves after every transaction. Best solution is self service or bar reader gun and its only the customer that handles the item,like they do in China so less staff are needed. Only allowing certain number of people in and out kwhich my local supermarket doesn't reinforce)

I think gloves can help people stop touching their faces and contaminlating things they touch like trolleys, fridge doors and cash card holders. As long as you dispose of them immediately after leaving the supermarket (I wash and disinfect mine) then wash your hands with alcohol gel. Or even better use a tissue to touch public surfaces and throw away. I even go as far disinfecting my car steering wheel, handle, gear stick, indicators etc just as part of meticulous hygiene that's the only real thing that can save lives plus good social distancing rules ... Still get really annoyed when i shop in supermarket, how people go right next to me to pick up their items because they too impatient!

Also, I live nearby a hospital and its astounding to hear the number of ambulance sirens going off every half hour or less. I lived here for nearly a year and never heard of this before
