This isn't a pop at the Police but I witnessed a police officer today almost close enough to kiss someone today , A truck had pulled into a lay by because his oil warning light had come on as he had a hole in his engine sump which the driver discovered once he had parked safely .

The police officer had followed the oil trail for about a mile to the lay by and quite rightly need to check with the driver if it was diesel or engine oil that had been spilt so as he could advise the highways department for a clean . But he was totally in the drivers face questioning him when he could have easily done this from a 2 metre distance ?

I spoke to the driver after the officer left and he was quite angry by the whole distance thing.

If you really feel the need to complain then you should report it to the relevant constabulary, preferably with the officers badge number.

That is what I told the driver , but you would have thought that the police officer would have shown common sense in the current climate ? As It wasn't my personal space that got violated why would I put a complaint in?

Because the police officer infects the lorry driver. The lorry driver goes home and infects his wife. His wife goes to the supermarket and infects your elderly mother. Your elderly mother ends up on a Dyson ventilator. After 4 days the doctors make the decision your elderly mother has to give her ventilator up for a 35 year old with no underlying health conditions. Your mother then dies.

I have put a laminated card in my car stating.

"I am prepared and willing to speak to you but not through an open window or door.

You can speak on the phone on this number [NUMBER] or through the glass.

This is for your protection as well as mine, if this is a ptoblem then I will follow you to the nearest police station"

I agree and seen too many coppers with heads against and in car windows with no respect for the 2m guidance. They are more likely to have it than myself due to speaking to others.

If you see it, report it for their own protection.

Pretty sure be worse at the police station rather than you asking to keep distance and speak through the window

Is it really worth wasting everyone's time by escalating this at the moment?

I'd rather just answer the question and be on my way.

In the UK, the police are allowed to stop and question you at any time. However, you are not obliged to answer these questions and cannot be charged for not doing so. You can walk away or say 'I am using my right to remain silent', just make sure you do so in a calm and polite manner.

Are you a member of the bar, or just a common or garden barrack-room lawyer??
