You think it is time we leave Nato our defense budget too high. We think it's best as veterans to turn that money back into the people.

We both vets that's the argument that money along with our power projection and national defense budget can be better used. Social programs ect... Almost 800 billion this year. Tired of deploying is the general consensus in the vet community.

That's the general consensus in the vet community. Why should we defend the world anymore. It's not like anyone going to invade the US. The money can be better spent on the people.

It's a good point, the same was made in the 1930s when the US became isolationist. It depends whether you want influence as the worlds policeman or not. The UK was that until the end of WW1, the US has done this since the 1950s, China or Russia will fill the void if you leave. It frustrates me too but it all depends on what Plan B is

Even half of the budget for defense can fund the health system and social programs the Democrats want. Do you take that tho is the question.

From the perspective of the UK if the USA was to pull in her defense spending it maybe a good thing in the short term at least.

The europeans do need to fund there own defences to a greater extent, but and it is a big BUT...The chinese influence in Africa is already pre eminent...Do the western allies allow this influence to grow unchecked?...Is it in the interests of the USA to allow an industrial power to grow and grow unchecked. Maybe it is the ever changing world of influence, changing page...The Uk has had her time and since then it has been the USA,is it maybe the rise of China and its influence that will dictate the century ahead....
