south west , continental

The Cramps, for sheer entertainment value and their own unique style

Dr Feelgood, very under rated but a band who influenced a lot of great bands including the Clash.

Led Zepplin would be contenders, but probably for length of service it would have to be the Rolling Stones.

Because the OP asked for the BEST R&R band, Sabbath were great, but not better than Stones.

I saw them late, just before they split up - I was gutted as I wanted more but I have that memory, awesome night!

Against popular opinion but I wouldn't say the Beatles were rock and roll, pop yes. When you say rock, then acdc, stones, gnr etc, etc. No one mentioned Boston, thin Lizzy, Springsteen, shame on you all.

Depends whether you think "Rock" is the same as "Rock'n'Roll". As Keef says, "Rock is easy. But roll is hard".
