"Yes its a legal requirement to check ID of non members who are using a private members club. There have been quite a few venues that have fallen foul of the law and lost their licenses. Bear in mind alot of venues have licenses and its in thier interest to keep them. So asking to see some ID is a small price to pay. " so all the clubs that I have been to are breaking the law ?

Maybe clubs in the NW that don't require ID can post on here with the reason why.

It just puzzles me how the policy seems to be all over the place & there apparently is no proper answer

"if you want to join a club you have to show id." not talking about joining, the question is about attending. Not every club does. The question is about the precise legalities.

"I'd hazard a guess that with wanting to see id they are just making sure that your over 18/21 depending on the policy plus if you were to say go to a normal non swingers club who asked to see id would you be questioning them " never been asked for ID in a night club either

"People are getting confused again and complicating the question. This is not about morality, what someone has or not to hide , wether your happy to give your ID or not. Simply some clubs demand it stating it’s a requirement and some don’t. Is this personal a choice by the club or are the clubs that don’t require it breaking a law. Maybe the terms of licences are different in some area or maybe it’s the facilities on offer that allow clubs to operate differently. " I totally get what you are asking. Take 3 clubs in the NW. Townhouse, Cupids and Amours. Townhouse - membership ID needed. Always asked for it upon entry before I got a membership. Cupids and Amour - never asked. Been numourous times to both. So why? Is it the terms of the licence? Could anyone from these clubs comment to shed light on the matter.

"It could well come down to the terms of the license. If the local authority doesn't consider the club a private members club then they don't need to see ID. We've been to eight clubs and have only been asked for ID at three. " it does some to vary. As an inquisitive person I just like to know the fine detail of these things ( boring I know but it’s a real puzzle to me )

"I might be wrong but half of the OP’s original point has been missed. Some clubs have on their website that to gain membership when joining (and attending the first time), single men please bring ID, but no mention of it under the single female and/or couple paragraphs of the membership tab. Are single males seen as some high risk? No I’m not trying to initiate a witch hunt, just highlight an anomaly I’ve spotted on at least one or two sites. " ive noted that also . Equally in any other area of commerce the price structure would be viewed as highly discriminatory & opportunistic on gender !
