Out of interest, are there any fabbers who are into rock climbing? Might be cool to get to know a few of you and could meet up for a climbing social sometime?

I used to do a bit of bouldering and indoor stuff. Haven't been in about 5 years though, and have never climbed outdoors.

I usually climb indoor, it involves less time traveling to places! Still enjoyable though!

Never really bothered indoors, I really don't quite get it. Climbing is done on crags. Snow & Ice is my (strong) favourite.

I've done indoor a couple of times, still a newby as you can't really climb alone and my shifts are shite! It was a couple of years ago though.

I go walking and enjoy scrambling up mountains, least i can do that alone lol

HVS to soft E1 outdoors, 6a sport.

Hip & arm troubles stopped most of it 5 years ago.

First day out of a sling today, so even the stairs are defeating me

My climbing days are behind me due to age and bits of me wearing out. When I was active it was big multi pitch classic climbs in Scotland, mostly Glencoe, Skye, Rum and the Cairngorms.

Nice to see there are a few others about!

Outdoor climbing is always better but I often don’t have anyone to climb with, so indoor is nice as training and muscle conditioning.

I have only started climbing again recently but boulder v2/3 and lead 5+ or top rope 6b

Keen climber and canyoneerer plus any walking. Need to find some new climbing friends down in the south east due to moving for a job. Far less climbers than in south Wales and Shropshire and a much longer drive to proportional hills

Keen outdoor enthusiast here......

Climbing in all its forms is by far my most preferred and enjoy bouldering most of all.

Was once a member of the British competition squad. My most memorable comp was in Japan where the wall started from bellow the level of the crowed. I slipped off the 2nd hold and was never even seen by the crowd. I do wonder what the crowed thought.

Still love bouldering and competing but now a day it’s in the Vets category.

Climbed and worked with many of Britain’s and world known climbers. It’s just a massive part of my life. Spent yesterday with a friend and kids up at Almscliff, had a brill time just weaselling about.

A fab camp and climb social might be a good idea and will offer to help you organise if you do so.

This thread sounds like the start of the best climbing trip of all time!! Not sure how much climbing would get done though!

I thought top roping might be of interest to some...

Seriously though, who would be interested if a trip was organised? Somewhere with easy options for less experienced people too (climbing that is! Haha)

Well the climbing is what I was thinking could be photographed, but I’m sure there could be opportunities for other types of photograph if people wanted there to be!

We love Rock Climbing, so we're interested in the action!

In fact Jack's business is teaching climbing, so maybe if there were some less experienced members who wanted to get involved in the swinging climbing club, he could lend them kit

Belay ledge gangbang anyone?

"Well this climbing weekend is certainly starting to hot up a little :p"

So where were you thinking of holding the social ?

Middle of the country..... Peak District

So it’s central for all.

Or a coastal venue so there is other things to do if people tire of climbing.

Peak District could be good, like you say, nice and central! Although I do love the coast! Haha

But plenty of walking to be done in the peaks too!

Don't call it the peaks in front of people who are fond of the area.

Just the peak

Not sure to be honest, my knowledge of outdoor climbing areas is limited! Most of the climbing I do is indoor!

If you have any suggestions feel free to put them out there!

Most campsites in the peaks are family based but this should be ok as you can be discrete. So there is a campsite in a small village called Birchover, not far from Matlock.

http://www.barnfarmcamping.com

It has all amienities and a pub a short walk down the road.

Climbing wise there is the sports play ground of the limestone quarries around Matlock max 15 mins away.... you could walk to two very good bouldering spots of Stanton Moor and Rowtor Rocks. Nearest Trad climbing is at Cratcliff tor but frogat and curbar are within easy travelling.

Hope that helps.

Sounds good! I would say for a social group with mixed ability the sports climbing in the quarries would be good. If some people want to try more then can decide on the day?

Any particular dates that would suit or not suit people?

the limestone quarries to be fair are shit at best.

gritstone outcrops are the best option. all have a bouldering choice also.

There’s a video on FB doing the rounds at the moment. Johnny Dawes shared it recently of a chap taking a winger from just below the top. Without bouldering pads it deserves its E7 any day.

That’s a bit unfair....

Compared to French limestone your right but for easy sports in this country they aren’t that bad.

Granted the grit is much better.

Have you done it ?

Was one of the first routes I did with now world class TNF athlete when he was just starting out as a 16 year old. It was as hard as other E7s such as Masters Edge, technically not as difficult as Snap decision but more Necky.

Don’t be silly..... climbing is about friendships, having a good time and enjoying the moment.

Does not matter how hard you climb or what others do, it’s all about (or should be) the enjoyment.

You are never going to get a group of people to arrive a mutal date by asking what would suit.

You just need to pick a date stick it up on the organise meets forum maybe mention it in other forums too but always link back and hope you get lots of interest.

If you want more people don’t just make it about climbing there is plenty of good walking and lots of tourist things to do in the area.
