Where is Southampton ? Bang in the middle of the south coast. Not South East, not South West. Yet any search of S.E will bring up places like Dover and Norwich, and S.W obviously takes you all the way to Cornwall. Nobody is going to travel much more than an hour for a meet. So from Southampton that might include Brighton, to Bournmouth. The M3 corridor, SW London, Northampton, Swindon and possibly towards Bristol. If a new area cannot be created, perhaps the search criteria could be based on a radius from home, either time or distance.

When I search the area you describe I go into advanced search and in the locations boxes I put "any" for region and in the right hand (city) box I put BH, SO, PO, SP. This will do a search of the solent for you, a bit more effort but I agree it stops you getting Cornwall and Devon or Cambridge and Colchester. Good luck.
