I find that Asian women who wear face coverings in public deeply offensive to me..when I look at them they stare back at me as if I am the one with problem..and when I mention that I am uncomfortable with it then I am more or less being accused of being a racist which I am not..they want us to accept them and their cultures but when I am in the park with my grand children they all keep themselves to themselves..how is it possible to have interaction with a person who covers their face and makes no attempt to socialise?.

How do you know that they are Asian if they are covered up?

You can't complain about being called racist, if you open with a race-based opinion...

I agree that in our culture it is extremely bad manners, to the point of being offensive, to engage in open personal interaction while hiding your face - but you're principally addressing the racist issue, which is a different matter.

Covering something up can never be offensive. Grow up ! Yes. . I agree that people from other cultures do tend to isolate themselves rather than integrate. . But that will change over the decades . Look at african folks . .you're just as likely to come across them as a white person in any walk of life. I do find severel religions very odd and opressive. . But that's purely my view. . I'd never judge someone just because they wear or don't wear something . Your post isn't helping people from that culture to integrate is it ?

..for people to integrate into our society then THEY have to want to..you can lead a horse to water but you cannot make it drink...its not about me..growing up as you so elequently put it...and my comment is in no way racist

Saying a particular religious culture offends you. . Is that not racist ? And would you expect someone that sector of society to want to integrate with someone like you ? You can indeed lead a horse to water . . You cant drag it by it's ears !

..I disagree that is racist...I am not commenting on a persons race..what I do find offensive is that people who want us to accept them into our society and way of life do not make the effort.. And to walk about with their faces covered is deeply offensive to me..I think you will find that the real racists in this country are the very ones who will not integrate into our society..they are the real racists.

...ok...you walk into tescos wearing a full faced balaclava.. and let's see how far into the store you go without being stopped by security... And yet its perfectly acceptable for women to wear a full face covering when they go shopping.. That's racist..and it's my very point.it's ok for them..but not for us..racist against us..and quite frankly..its about time this country had an open and honest debate about banning the face covering..like the French.

I don't give a monkeys what people wear. I can get on with anyone. People can choose whatever culture they like, it's not a one size fits all thing.

How much integrating do expat Brits do?

The problem is that the government has introduced such draconian legislation on racism that the indigenous population are terrified of raising sensitive issues like this for fear of being branded a racist..re Bradford.. Case in point.

I fail to see what is 'draconian' about respecting other cultures, religions and the right to wear what you want.

I socialise with people on the Internet and don't know what they all look like, so you can actually socialise with people who you don't see their whole face.

Seeing as this is a religious issue I am going to say using the word racist is the wrong word to use anyway. Religion isn't based on race.

Yes technically it's not racist. . But it's not very palatable is it ?

Wearing a balaclava is a fashion choice. For many devout Muslims wearing a Niqab is an article of faith. The cultural and religious heritage goes back a long time and this right is balanced against the security implications.

..I accept that..so why is it acceptable that they should also be allowed to drive whilst wearing the face veil?..if they get cammed speeding they can deny it was them driving.. Its not right.

The legal onus is on them to prove beyond reasonable doubt that it wasn't them driving, rather than on the CPS proving it was. If they were to say it were not them, then they would have to say who it was and then there would be a trial.
