Things to do in the Welsh Borders

I'm going on holiday in late September, staying near Ross-on-Wye. I have a few ideas of things to do, but if there are any Fabbers who live in the area, would they have any suggestions? I normally enjoy looking around castles and so on (history geek, I'm afraid), but I'm open to any suggestions and you like to give some new things a try.

Secondly, I can hardly have a week away without trying at least one new club. Would anyone like to offer a recommendation?
