i have a very good friend who is originally from Nigeria

he wears the most vibrant coloured of orange suit regularly and is an all round general "cool as ice guy"

he looks really good in his ginger suit as i call it but..... if a white guy wore the same suit he would look like he was on his way to blow up balloons and cause mayhem at a kids party it just doesnt look "cool"

my question is this...... from a coloured person's perspective is there anything like that in your opinion where you might think ok that may suit or be better ? (cant think of the word)for a white person more than a black person ???

peace and love x

The term coloured to describe a black person is pretty much now out of fashion. Just saying black is fine.

Personally I dont find blond/red hair looks good on a black person; similarly blue or green coloured eye contacts

I couldn't help but laugh reading this, great post. I've never found anything that wouldn't suit me which I put down to knowing how it all fits. Put it this way, I'm the type of black man that feels comfortable wearing a Kilt, and you can't get more Caucasian than that.

Black people range in colour from almost white to very dark diffrent colours suit diffrent skin tones very hard to answer that question.

Leave coloured in the past where it belongs.

I'm going to sound completely ignorant/ foolish stupid whatever now but I mean no offence to anyone I'm just curious as I like to know things and I also like to use correct terminology etc so as not to cause offence to people , so can you please tell me why the word coloured is offensive or deemed incorrect I'm not looking for an argument or anything as I have no opinion what so ever on what it should be I just wondered why ...

You're not being ignorant at all, totally the opposite, a curious mind makes for better understanding.

I'll only speak for Britain here as America have their own set of reasons. The term 'coloured' is regarded as derogatory due to the fact of how the word was used when racism was rife during the late 50's to mid 80's. I can only speak of what I remember hearing from my parents and what I experienced myself growing up in the 80's.

I hope this helps you. - Mr. B.

Thanks for the info to be honest I would have naturally before said coloured as to me personally I don't know why but black seems a harder more offensive word. I don't know whether other people think this or maybe just me . But from now on rest assured I know what to say.

Your welcome. I think one of the reasons why you assumed 'black' as being harsh, balls down to social conditioning based on over fervent political correctness.

I'm not sure that has anything to do with being black. I think he's an American trying to fit in with his white neighbours.

Nth. London

On a similar tip...it makes me laugh when people between the ages of say 30-60 pause when they describe someone as mixed race. What they really want to say is half caste!

I'm mixed race but I grew up being called half caste. Even I have to stop and think...

And apparantely the term we must use is, wait for it...'Dual heritage'. Bloody hell, when will the scared white liberals make their minds up lol?

And as I'm very light skinned ("oh, you could pass for Italian" - phew, that's OK then!) I get to see & hear peoples' REAL opinions and watch their faces cloud over, their brains tracking back, wondering if they've been 'caught out'.

I've actually been told "hang on, that's not fair, I didn't realise you were half black"

Hilarious.

Wear whatever you like!

Manchester

Saw Ozwald Boateng once walking along Saville Row to his store. The guy looked a million dollars. If you don't know about tailoring he came to fame supply the suits for the Lock Sock & 2 Smoking Barrels movie. His suits were all colours of the rainbow as worn by Tiny Tempah etc...

The difference is in the suit a decent orange suit would good on any guy in good shape but a fancy dress outfit would look shit on anyone black or white
