Hi ladies,

Hope this is okay to post here.

Just wondering if anyone is on the copper coil (am considering it) and what their experiences were?

Many thanks,

M

Failed for me and I fell pregnant on it within a couple of months.

Had a copper coil, and it made my already heavy cycle worse so I had it out. Made me anaemic and the cramps felt like early labour. Considering the hormonal one, only thing putting me off is actually having it put in because I almost fainted when I had the copper one. I know some people who do get on well with it though x

(Trans man, sorry if it's weird to comment)

I haven’t had any issues with periods on it but I will warn you that it was the most horrific thing to experience having fitted. It felt like a hot poker being rammed inside me and I almost fainted. I am dreading having to have it replaced already and I’ve got 4 years to go!

I have a copper coil, periods quite well regulated, last about 5 days, with about 1 really heavy day.

Fitting is really uncomfortable. Take painkillers beforehand, and plan a hit bath or hot water bottle for after.

I had one for 10 years, it didn't really give me any problems but my periods were 7 days long.

It's just different. A copper coil doesn't use hormones, whereas the merina does so the experience will be quite different for most women.

Hi

I've had hormonal and copper. Currently back with copper.

So far I'm OK. Its been 7 months. Periods as normal. No crazy hormone swings.

Yes fitting was uncomfortable. But worth it imo. Considering going back on jaydese (lower hormone) as sick of periods.

Apparently fitting is better I'd you have had a vaginally birth. C sec here so cervix never opened

Hey, I have the hormonal one. I don’t bleed at all. I haven’t had a period in nearly 2 years since having it fitted. Yes the initial fitting can be horrific and the cramps that come after it. But I’d rather that than worry about periods or a pill everyday.

I can’t feel it, my partner can if he digs deep enough lol. I forget it’s there! X

I have hormonal one for 3 years now and has heavy Beeding and cramps after but was not her compared to what had been though with child birth.

Period are now so light barely anything, mood swings still have and occasional cramps other then that I'm good.

I suppose everyone is different but I found it made my periods a lot heavier and even more irregular. Couldn’t bear it had to have it removed. It’s easy enough to remove so I’d say try it you’ve nothing to lose xx

Thank you every one! I’ve had a mirena coil before but was wondering about the hormone free options available. You’re input has been helpful

I was on the injection for five years then had two implants, I’m now on the copper coil and I really wish I’d done it sooner! I suffered from depression and anxiety previously and my sex drive took a serious nose dive. Since being on the copper coil it’s like the clouds lifted and my sec drive returned with a vengeance. It isn’t pleasant having it put in and my periods are seriously wacko (I’m convinced there’s more behind that though and it isn’t the coil causing it) for me, I’d rather have 5-7 days of my period feeling uncomfortable and yuck than have the constant cloud of emotion and depression caused by the hormones from other methods.

C x
