Grammar and literacy

He’s all. Looking some info on this. So this will sound elitist which will am not. How does it feel when you read a profile littered with grammatical and/ or worse spelling errors. Example: easyer as a word. For me it’s so off putting. Would welcome your thoughts: am I being elitist in this view?

Reading your profile I have to assume that you've been picked up on this OP. Don't let it bother you as it's easy to make mistakes when tapping away on your phone. It can be understood which is all that matters.

I think it it depends how judgmental you are about others. Not everyone has the same level of education, and are often only as good as the people they are taught by. Lots of people have learning disabilities as well.

But OP, your own post isn’t perfect so maybe you should look at yourself before casting judgment on others.

I don't think it's elitist, there are certain things that make me go "tut". However I am a bit hazy on apostrophes in certain circumstances and colons and semicolons so I try not to be too judgemental. It wouldn't stop me meeting someone though.

It's my job to write things accurately and proofread, so maybe I'm a bit biased! That said, as with all forms of communication there's other factors you need to consider. Intent, purpose, context, etc. Not everyone is good at spelling and grammar, and on a site like this the odd typo etc is bound to happen. But it doesn't really matter so long as you're able to be understood - and at least trying to make what you write easily understandable.

Things like text speak for the sake of it or huge blocks of unpunctuated text are offputting though. In the same way that a reader or listener has to try and make sense of the odd error, the speaker or writer should also be making it as easy as they can for the reader/listener.

For those who genuinely struggle, a brief note such as 'sorry I have trouble with words' also goes a long way in placating people and making them go that bit further to try and understand.

I just want to point out that this can be offensive to people with learning disabilities such as myself.

I’m massively dyslexic so spelling and grammar is hard for me.

Next time before you post a topic you might want to read it
