We're going to Durham for a few days, we've not been before, can anyone recommend places to visit - preferably historical - that are open now?

Durham Cathedral is fantastic.

Bowes Museum at Barnard Castle.

The whole of Durham City is brilliant to be honest it's a bit like York but smaller and not as touristy.

Have a great day.

Awesome thank you, we'll certainly be heading for the Cathedral and Barnard Castle this week.

The cathedral is only open for private prayer at the moment, no plans to open to tourists yet.

Two things ...

One if heading to Barnard castle avoid doing a Dom...parking by woods to go to the toilet and end up playing..

Great tucked away cafe in Durham..

Go down hill from town square.. at bottom as curves to go over bridge..there is alleyway on left..cafe just down on left hand side .

Path leads up to cathedral through woods with views over river..

Can recommend the café you're on about, it should be even better as there'll be no students around

Beamish open air museum is opening again on the 23rd of July. You need to pre book a place.

Cafe - check.

We've been to Beamish a few times, last time was for a steampunk gathering - lovely place.
