Where in Sri Lanka are you ...

If South West ... visit Galle

Or there is a turtle breeding and conservation centre on the west coast between Galle and Colombo

Hi,

Been to Sri Lanka many times, absolutely amazing place.

Favourite beach on South west coast is Hiriketiya.

Train ride from Ella to Kandy is a must.

Adams Peak is worth the climb.

Great food in the Muslim hotel in Kandy.

Dambulla- Sigiriya Rock, (with the palace ruins on top, if I remember correctly) and Temple Caves.

Try and ge to an elephant sanctuary, but chances are you’ll see enough elephants crossing the roads on your journeys.

We have booked to go here in September, staying at the Water Gardens in Sigiriya where you can see Lion Rock from the grounds; really looking forward to our trip and we have a couple of other excursions already booked for while we are there.

Not long got back.

Tended to avoid the main tourist haunts, hung out with locals, got lucky seeing turtles hatching and helping them out to sea and had myself a Shirley Valentine moment. Best trip ever

We are also off to visit the country for a couple of weeks, today in fact, after only booking the flights on Sunday!

We've not had much time to do the research yet so if anyone has any advice we are definitely all open and appreciative. We have a train from Kandy to Ella booked and thats it!

Has anyone on here flown Air Sri Lanka and bid on an upgrade to first class? Just wondered what a sensible sum would be, we were thinking £500, but really not sure.

We did the bid up on Sri Lanka airways. Worth every penny. £500 sounds about right, one of the best business class we have flown on!

"In Sri Lanka last few days, and everything is getting back to normal.

Watching news with interest, our trip is all booked and paid for, for Sept and was really looking forward to visiting this beautiful country, now wondering if we should skip this leg if our holiday and go straight to the Maldives, but would probably need to book that now.

Really feel for this country and the fact it has just started to get back on its feet after years of unrest and I am hoping that things settle back to been as safe as anywhere else in the world and all travel restrictions are lifted.
