Phuket or Ko samui

I would guess most would choose Samui but at this time of year when Phuket is coming out of its wet season and Samui is coming into wet season. Would you choose Samui over Phuket and just embrace the rain or would you choose Phuket?

I had plans to stay in Koh Samui but the high probability of lots of rain is making me rethink things plus accommodation there is alot more expensive then i originally thought. I always remember people bragging about getting 5 star luxury hotels for 30 quid when in Thailand yet 3 times more then that doesn't even get you close to 5 star luxury from my experience. Accommodation seems very basic unless you spend big

We may have got things the wrong way round as we are off to koh sumi next week and phucket in jan but can’t say the hotels were that expensive . We been to phucket and pattaya before. One thing to bere in mind was the batt when we went was 55 now it’s 40 so that would reflect in higher hotel prices

Well iam basically finding it very difficult to find good accommodation for under 100 euro. It can be found. Don't get me wrong. It's just pretty basic and reviews aren't great. Anything i find that's more appealing to me is all well over 4000baht per night which is alot of money considering people rave about getting 5 star hotels for one third of that lol

We always go self catering as you get bigger rooms and a fridge etc and think we payed about £40 per night for 4 star but we have had them booked for ages so may be the old saying is true the early bird gets a good deal lol lol

Maybe ha alot of the ratings are flattering too though. Plenty of 4 star rated hotels that are 2 or 3 star at best.

Samui is nice but I was there in December last year and it rained alot as the monsoon dragged on even later last year apparently, Phuket was dry and sunny and busy enough. Share your pain on the cost of accommodation but the significant drop in exchange rate isn't in our favour. Decent 4 star accommodation in Phuket was about £80 a night last year.....stayed at the Nap Hotel

''Tis true op. Thailand, phillpines Aisa etc.. isn't cheap anymore. Back in 2000 a different story. Where as its more commercialised/tourists prices gave gone up astronomicaly hi these days!. Have travelled Thailand quite a bit, been to both islands, and although both islands are lovely. But in my opinion, I preferred Phuket. But just an insight for you. I stayed at chanalai garden resort. At kata beach. And must say, for it being a two star hotel, it is extremely clean, modern furniture, and buffet breakfast in the morning is handsome!... and at the time I'm sure it was roughly £550 for 12 nights. So no, I doubt you could get five star for anything less than a few grand!

Give you an example.. I'm looking into going el nido Palawan in Nov, and for a four star beach resort in lagen island, it'll set you back around 5-6 grand for 12 nights!
