Had a few holidays in patong and my tips would be:

Northern part of the beach is the better part for me anyway.

No sun loungers for hire on the beach any more which is a stupid rule brought in about 3 years ago.

Location of hotel in relation to rip off taxi costs and noise and proximity to beach is critical.

I had a nice friendly time at the Nap hotel but plenty of other suitable options.

Finally Thailand and Phuket in particular isn't as cheap as it used to be eg 8pounds plus for a single jack Daniels and in one of the bigger nightclubs

Also did a week in Ao Nang a few years ago the beach in Ao Nang was pretty poor quite course gritty sand but just around the headland by long-tail boat are some lovely beaches that unfortunately are very popular. If you want an alternate location on Phuket check out Kate, Karon or my favourite Nai Harn which is great for relaxing break

Patong is great. Going again early October this year. Pretty much everything you want. Better beaches at karan bay though. Barter like hell on taxi price before you get in or try the local bus.

Karon (correct spelling) is about 10 minutes taxi ride away to south of patong. Kata is the next village south. Nai Harn would be about 30 to 40 mins away.

Message me if you want as I can't respond dorectly

Check out the bars in the markets area just opposite hard Rock Cafe. Price for a bottle of beer there and most of Bangla Rd is 80 Baht or about 2 quid.

We were there two weeks ago.

A lot of the bars have live music now and the quality is good.

I second about Karon area, also Kata, they aren't as hectic as Bangla rd, however they do have many small bars & much better beaches then Patong.

Have a fantastic holiday.

What hotel have you booked or are considering?

Also the jungceylon shopping centre is very similar to St David's 2 in Cardiff.

Was in Phuket for new year, also in June the year before, booked to go back in June to, such a great place! Worth getting a mo-ped and taking a wee spin to Karon and kata, Karon beach is awesome and kata is a really nice smaller 1 with great water sports, both places are just down the coast £5 rent of mo-ped for the day and gives you freedom to explore a bit

We had a private trip with a driver. Air conditioned car. Cost about £35 all day. Went everywhere plus got the drivers extensive knowledge. Recommend the big bhudda as well.

I agree about having a private driver, it's a big convenience to have, plus their knowledge, win win. How good is the view from the big buddha?

Phuket has some beautiful places, rent a car or bike and head north to find white golden beaches with no other footprints in the sand. For other areas couple of hors on a ferry to ko phi phi island is excellent, or go a bit further to find Ko lanta. You will need it after the wild nights in patong phuket.

We hired a car in phuket and a bike in ko lanta.

In phuket bike or car juast head back towards the airport and just before the bridge to the mainland, on the left theres a quite stunning white sandy beach where you find just you and sand crabs. Ko lanta reminds me of florida keys, well laid back and chilled if thats your thing. oh and eat the street food, its all fresh and amazing. Have a great time

You can book flights 11 months in advance but make sure your return is within the 11 months or the airline sites say 'not available'.
