Tip which will save you some money. Use a specialist FX company to move your money - you can monitor rates and send. Also get French bank account asap. System is similar to Scotland, when deal agreed you will be expected to pay 10% deposit. Finally come south for better weather

Don't you need a address in France first before you can open a bank account I too may be looking but I am a beach person going over in August may visit the cap or will it be too busy then any advice would be appreciated rgds kohn

Its not so bad here....we have been enjoying it here for the last six years, right on the Normandy Brittany border, close to Le Mont Saint Michel. If anyone needs advice on buying here feel free to ask. Might be able to answer some of your questions. And yes there are some great people here, the lifestyle is brilliant!

You can open a bank account even though you don't reside in France. We opened our account before we bought, our bank requirement was passport, recent utility bill of your home address, and recent bank statement. No free banking here as in the UK. You will pay for a bank card & chequebook. It may vary from bank to bank.

Good advice, but you will NOT be able to rent via an agent as they want to insure your rent payments, which they can't do if your not a French taxpayer! Only option is a private rental - a fellow expat maybe possible. Rental agreements here are for 3 year's with options to terminate either side. Don't know if there are any costs involved as we didn't get that far - we offered a years rent in advance & still not possible.

We are in total agreement with that bit of advice. We have seen some people make some silly mistakes. they come on holiday for two weeks, buy something, then regret it for years. Rent somewhere, try living there for a while. You only ever find the real deals when you are on the ground in an area. Talk to people who have lived there for at least 5 years! avoids the distorted views made through rose coloured glasses!

A bit further south will take you nearer Royan and the naturist beaches at Montalivet.

The weather though, as others have said, can be unpredictable.

We are south of that in the Vienne between Poitiers and Angouleme on the N10. We are flying back to other places on 31st July.

much appreciated.

We have had to change dates due to our buyer not being allowed to pay during Ramadan but made him sign so all ok.

we are now planning our trip for early August so if anybody fancies meeting up, feel free to message us .

we are trying to tell them same and beware the really quite villages and the acres of land that needs tending to as well as the buy a barn and rebuild it syndrome, Think why you come to france it isn't to work like a slave

Thank you for your input.

We havn`t gone into this lightly.

We have done house removals to France and other places for over 20 years and done a lot of homework, learned the language too ,not looking for a Blackpool by the sea but a more rural lifestyle ,with the possibility of a naturist campsite within a couple of hours of the main ports (except Calais),

The weather isn`t everything ,If it was We would go to Spain .The French in our experience are a lot more friendly in the northwest than the south, Having said that we are also looking at Dept79,49,17 and 86.on the uk / spain route if we cant find what we want in the Loire areas.

We hope this gives a better insight into what we are looking for and appreciate your input .

Ok having set up 2 companies in France its bloody hard slog. Take a lot of care in the set up. Many think health & safety aren't that big an issue in France - wrong in our experience unless its just for the English but then that would be racist! Not sure what hoops you would have to jump through for a campsite or what infrastructure you would need. But labour is costly here in France - 24% alone for social charge (Nat ins) then tax. So skilled trades are ouch. Campsites are abundant in France and weather will feature high on the list. Hope it goes well for you.

we ourselves looked at a business in france and it is really hard going , do not forget French accountants work very different to English, they make sure the gov gets everything they can first, and if you get a marie that doesnt like you or your ideas then its a no go and don't forget they change them sometimes.

if I was setting anything up re brit market in the area you are looking at it would be somewhere for brits to overwinter their caravans so they can flip down quick and miss out on the costly ferries.

Just a thought
