Hi We are having our first holiday in Vegas next month has anyone been there recently Could you give us your view of the hi spots to see and the low spots to visit

I've been to Vegas a few times with work and it's a nice place but IMO it's the sort of place you go once and that's it. You don't truly realise how "in your face" the gambling is until you get there. I recommend the Irish bar in New York New York (excellent steaks) and the fountain show at night outside the Bellagio. Definitely take in a show (I won't recommend a particular one, as everyone has different tastes) and for something a little different.....Vegas has a huge sex shop on the outskirts of the strip that far surpasses what we have in the uk and to be honest some of the fetish equipment just plain makes your eyes water lol.

Hope you both have a cracking time and will tell me about it when you get back.

As above and make sure you wander around all the larger casinos as some of the themed ones are sights to see in their own right. Also try the stratosphere tower and try to get down to Fremont Street for the light show.

When i was there in October I found out one interesting fact....if you only stay on or around the strip you haven't actually stayed in Las Vegas lol something to do with county lines or city boundaries or something :D

If you go on any tours - say to the grand canyon, then shop around, there are several operators - all doing the same tours. Those that pick up at the cheaper end of town pick people up from the Belagio advising the passengers not to tell them how much they paid (that's what our driver told us to do)

With gambling - enjoy yourselves, take an aount you can lose, we took $20, changed them into 1/4ters and stayed playing slots for I dont know how long - but it was 3 am when we walked out. We we given free drinks and meals - they keep you in as they see you playing/winning - even though you are only on $20 and a good nights entertainment

Clubs/events expect to tip the staff to get decent seats $5-$10 its all part of the life out there.

If you are not happy with the room - go back to reception and say so. They usually upgrade for free. We said we were told there was a jacuzzi and there isn't one. They moved us from the 2nd floor to the 19th floor - to a double bathroomed jacuzzied room.

It a town of excess on excess. You'll never forget it.

The all you can eat buffets are a good option rather than paying for Hotel meals. I can't remember the price in all honesty, but it was like $10 cheap. If you can imagine a room something like, 1/2 - 3/4 the length of a football pitch, with what is essentially Charlie and the Chocolate Factory laid out on it, those are good - ask around as I can remember where, but most of the Hotels do one. The food is restaurant quality - not your average Harvester.

lol - it's an adult playgroud - you can do pretty much anything you want whenever you want it 'd think. I was touring the US so was on a bufget so out for different things. I would say that you need to have a daily budget. If anything have a plan for the last day to blow everything - the house always wins anyway lol. You may know or may not but they pump O2 into the casinos to keep you in them, and alert, they do not have clocks in them so you do not know the times, the layouts are designed to disorientate, the booze is designed to have you spend, the attractions inside keep you spending - then again you dont go to Vegas for anything else other than enjoyment.

There are prostitutes in there in the casinos btw! They will usually ask for a light or if you need help, just bear in mind Americans can be chatty too lol

We stayed at Caesars it was fantastic, we did the buffett at The Bellagio which was reasonable. We went to a swing club called the Red Rooster, it was ok.

We tended to party most nights into the wee small hours, and would get up around lunchtime

Going downtown is quite fun, the Fremont street "Old Vegas" area is interesting. A bit further out is the Atomic Testing Museum which is fantastic, worth a visit if you enjoy history, same for the Mob Museum. If you're driving then I'd recommend taking a trip to Hoover Dam, it's a nice journey too, so is Red Rock Canyon. In Vegas itself the time you have is related to the amount of money you want to spend, the casino complexes are fun to explore for a while. Oh and a one button jacket with suitable trousers goes a long way for a guy.

Yea, i think we will stay in the bellagio. A daily bet amount sounds sensible, mid you sound like I won't even know what day it is! Think I am getting best man duties so, the pressure is on! Love the chatty American chicks, I have only had positive experiences with them! The seem to love a London accent

Have heard a few good things about the old town too. I want to check out that burning man festival too. Looks amazing!

I've stopped in the Luxor, and The Tropicana, which for £250 fir 5 nights with 2 double beds in the room was amazing value..

There is more than enough thinks to do in Vegas, you can spend a whole day just walking the strip and going in all the casino's, which I would recommend.

As for gambling you can't miss it, as above I would recommend setting a limit, and play the cent machines. I found they paid out more than the dearer machines. The waitress comes around every 15 minutes and you just tip them a dollar, it's a nice way to start the evening before going for a meal.

If you go to the old town Vegas, by Fremont street, go to Tony Romas restaurant. When they come for your order ask for steak and lobster. It's not on the menu but it only costs $12..... About £8

The best tip I would say it take comfy shoes because you wouldn't believe the size of the place, it's massive, especially when you think the MGM has something like the O2 inside it.

I love the place and would go back again as soon as possible

Forgot about this before. Apparently when down Fremont Street and you pop into the Golden Nugget to actually see the large gold nugget

there is a cash machine in the room (or nearby). Now I know you lot are thinking wtf is this muppet talking about i was informed (didn't get a chance to check it out) that this is a machine with a difference....you put your cash in it

and get a gold nugget out

Here occasionally, but mostly somewhere else

Do research...I've been about 5 times, and always found something new to do.

Grand Canyon - you may want to helicopter in, but the drive out is amazing too.

Eat at the stratosphere - either lunch or dinner. View is amazing and if you're feeling brave you can jump off the side!

See a show...either an ongoing one or a touring band....depending on your tastes.

Eat out - there's a great burger joint in treasure island, the buffet at the Paris is amazing, even the steakhouse in the otherwise grotty circus circus is still very good. I often have a big breakfast then just drink water during the day.

Hire a car - all the hotels have free multi storey car parks, "self park". If you get a taxi from the airport to your hotel, ask them not to "avoid the strip "...they seem to think it's slower, but I've never had a problem and it's the scenic route!

Google "$20 trick" to get a room upgrade.

Drive out to death valley

Don't get a gondola at the venetian - it's unrealistically false.

Roller coaster at NY is good.

If you're into cars there's an oval track you can get lessons on, and round the corner there's a Selby museum.

I forgot to mention, if you're there a while hire a car. LA is only a 4 hour drive away and Santa Monica is amazing, I've done the drive 4 times

You may need one in Vegas as well, but I used the public bus, you see some real characters on those things lol

The Red Rooster is one of the few swingers clubs in the USA that is up to European standards. We've always had a fun time there. It's quite a way from the Strip - a rental car is best, taxi drivers don't always know it. Phone first - their website is not always up to date.

Hi we where there in May last year use the bus to get up and down the strip and to Fremont street 8 dollars for 24 hours hop on and off

Mgm buffet 19 dollars with champagne best value for money

Use the ticket booths for the shows but check out seating plan we saw rod Stewart saved $100 each and good seats for snacks Great sandwiches from Walgreens stores ABC stores for cheap drinks Fremont street get there at dusk and stay the night great bands and all free don't forget to look up you can drink on the street also have a good time

We are there for our second time in October, loved it the first time, loads to do but we found just walking about visiting the various hotels and stopping for a few drinks to people watch was fun- see some sights lol

Be good to hear if anyone will be there in October

Stayed at NY, Great value but a little tired.. MGM 1 sq mile!! and a Must Do.... Pool Party.. (you tube them) Did a great night club one night outdoor 15 stories but can't remember the name!!!!.. As many have said,, You can get what you want in Vegas ,, Just how much Do you want...Enjoy... we will be back in April.. So any Sexy couples... Please come say Hello...xx

Think the club you were thinking of is the Voodoo Lounge (at the RIO? I think) it's at one of the big older hotels that is off the strip but the outside veranda looks over he entire strip & has to be the best view of Vegas.
