Can recommend Cologne very highly indeed. Several Christmas markets spread through the city, the best one being on the steps of the cathedral. Its a great place to get into the spirit of Christmas. Maybe see you there...

We have been to Xmas markets all over Germany and agree that Köin (Cologne) is probably the best place to start with Christmas markets. They have 6 different areas of markets all very atmospheric, but book your hotel room early. As for the 'FUN' side we didn't really look We are also planning a Xmas market trip but don't know where yet so keep us informed on your choice....

Cologne is very good and a wonderful city.

Also Dortmund is well worth a look if only for sheer scale. Rather than smaller ones in different parts of the city (as many others do) Dortmund is one big market in the city centre with the huge Xmas tree as the centerpiece.

Cologne is a bit thin on the "fun" side unless you travel a fair way out of the city, at Dormund there is club Schickeria just on the outskirts and quite a few others within a short drive.

If you do decide to come to our area, let us know and maybe we could get together.

Ooh you'll love the weinacht markt or Christmas markets, gluwien , bratwurst mushrooms with loads of garlic sauce and leberkuchen.

Dortmund is one of the best that you could go to.
