"Tuesday, 4th August 2020. Four more groups of foreign nationals are allowed entry with their families from today. The groups are holders of permanent residence permits, and workers who have individual work permits, or have special entry arrangements either individually, or through their employers. They must all have health certificates issued by their home governments, and Thai Embassy or Consulate entry certificates. They will all also be quarantined for 14 days upon arrival. "Until they stop the quarantine and ridiculous insurance price can't see Thailand getting any tourist back from Europe or the USA " They are trying to just have upmarket tourists, they are building a big marina in phuket...they're foreign minister is a dodgy little bugger who doesn't seem to like tourists full stop.

"It's not official but many news articles in Thailand have already speculated on this very subject. Here's one of them. https://thethaiger.com/coronavirus/thailands-international-borders-not-re-opening-for-tourists-until-2021-tat" Reading that it looks very unlikely. But myself I was not planning to go until may next year as I have a voucher from a 5 star hotel to use at the same hotel but with a year limit. I think if your planning before then it will involve quarantine when you get there...and who knows if you get stuck there for months if they ground the flights. But eact to thier own..

Our trip is researched, booked and is paid in full. It's £5000+ but isn't just Phuket airport. It's a multi destination so until Emirates cancel our 5 flights or virgin holidays cancel it, I'm counting down and optimistic Quarantine on return to the UK isn't an issue really but we're only in Thailand for 16 days and in 2 different destinations so quarantine or isolation that side wouldn't be viable for us

" We fly out of phuket at 01.30 ish so have planned to be on the beach in phuket that day as we'll check out from our resort at 11am. One of my offspring loves planes so is very happy sitting under a flight path or near an airport at any time This was planned in 2018/2019 and we could push it back but having lost our August on the Florida keys and our Egypt break im staying optimistic for this one " Still haven't got my money back for the may flights that I booked early january..so I'm in no rush to tie money up until I think is safe to do so...but I wish this thing would bugger off as I'll be too old to get back if it's much longer

"Thursday 13th August 2020. 34 quarantine package hotels are now open, mainly in Bangkok. Prices range from B29,000 to B220,000 (£725 to £5,500) for 14 days of full board plus medical supervision. But not for us because the UK doesn’t qualify as being “virus-free” yet. " Not for me even if they let me in as I want to see as much of Thailand as I can, but Bangkok I can do without seeing. And tbh booking a 14 hour flight to go into what sounds akin to a care home when you get there....feck that for a game of conkers.

"Friday, 14 August 2020 There seems to be an additional threat to the reopening of Thailand, and it has nothing to do with the virus. An increasing number of students are now demonstrating openly against the current King. They argue that the King should be accountable to parliament, he should moderates his use of public funds, stay out of politics and stop controlling important army units. This kind of protest is totally alien to most Thais, who may nevertheless secretly agree with it. Since he came to the throne, the new King has: 1. Thrown Parliament out of the country’s National Parliamentary Building, which was on his land. And at the same time he evicted the Bangkok Zoo. And no reasons for these peremptory actions were ever published. 2. Declared that the huge assets of the Crown Property Bureau are his personal property, and not notionally held in trust for the benefit of the Thai people, as they were under the late King Bhumibol. 3. Taken personal command of all military units based in Bangkok. 4. Been instrumental in the decision earlier this year to dissolve a dynamic new political party, which had attracted the support of many younger voters. Consequently, they feel that the military-dominated political system has denied them a voice. 5. Lived almost exclusively in Germany. All of this is extremely provocative for the conservative, royalist powers-that-be, and there are fears of massacres, like the one of October 1974. Martial law my be on the horizon. " It certainly seems they are not happy there going by yesterday in Bangkok.

"We have flights booked for late December. They are easily cancelled as they are reward flights. Hard to see currently it going ahead but then a lot could change over 4 months. Suppose the thai government needs to weigh up the risk against the potential loss of income from foreign tourists " I I've got flights booked Wednesday before Christmas (although ours is a package multi trip) and I agree with what you put. Back-packers need not apply! " Minimum stay is 30 days I read in the Thaiger....I wonder if they are going to extend the standard visa as it's only 30 days. It's going to be a bit tight.

"Tuesday, 15 September The government has approved a scheme which allows the issue of ninety-day renewable visas to foreign tourists, both medical and vacational. It could start next month. Visitors will have to spend the first 14 days in quarantine in special hospitals, specific areas, or state facilities, and will have to pay for their 90-day accommodation in advance. "My mate went out there on Saturday, flew to Bangkok, had all the relevant visas ect, he has a Thai daughter out there. He did a Covid test 72 hours before he went. Got to the airport and they have quarantined him for 14 days. There was no mention of this before he went. He even has to pay for the hotel they have put him in" Every airline has this info stated and you must click to acknowledge it! The fcdo also has this info on So either be chose to ignore it or he manually flapped his arms and flew himself to Bangkok Either way it's on him to check entry criteria of any country he's travelling too. Hopefully it'll teach him a valuable lesson for life

"Tuesday, 20 October The first batch of tourists has arrived in Thailand since the lockout started, seven months ago. A group of 39 people from Shanghai arrived in Bangkok today, where they will be quarantined for 14 days. Then, if they all pass two virus tests, they will move to a beach resort – still as a group. They must all install a tracking app on their phones. The next group of about 100 people from Guangzhou are scheduled to arrive in Bangkok next Monday, " Yep I seen it on thaiger, they are only going for 30 days in total including 14 days quarantine...so it seems they may have given up on the 90 days minimum stays.

" Yeah virgin are pushing the Caribbean, and U.S They quoted me a resort in the Maldives but are £500+ dearer than tui and it's 13 nights in the same resort & same flights, basis, room, transfers)(Tui quote for 14 nights in resort & still came in £500 cheaper). The Maldives also require pcr (as do the flights) which adds £149pp pre departure and all subject to change anyways (It could work out cheaper to fly from London and do the in airport test, than departing Manchester as things stand) Maldives is on my very short potential destination list though

Waiting for the thai embassy page to update for confirmation but you stay in your hotel (if it's approved as an alternative state quarantine location) until your pcr test from arrival comes back as clear, then you holiday as normal. As yet my hotel outside Bangkok isn't approved so I may be offered a change of hotel but it's paid to virgin and they have no interest in it yet

"Agree intetested in knowing true price of these approved quarantine hotels..and how do you book them!!!!" Theres a list online of approved hotels with asq (alternative state quarantine) status. They are standard hotels predominantly in Bangkok and I've not heard anyone say the hotel are charging more or any form of quarantine payment. I guess you'll have to pay their meal prices as you are grounded on arrival. I think the hotel we've booked into in Bangkok is now asq but the area we are supposed to travel to after that isn't listed online. I've no interest in spending 2 whole weeks in Bangkok though so Thailand may go onto Christmas 2021.

"So,Is 2021 looking like a write off destination for Holiday??" I think realistically if you're not prepared to do 2 week quarantine on arrival in Thailand that the first half of 2021 is very unlikely. If the vaccines are rolled out and offered to every adult before autumn, maybe, other countries will open their borders to us but I'm guessing.

"Not that it will break the bank, but Thailand is bringing in the 300 bhat tourist fee per visit to cover uninsured tourist hospital fees. A massive 34 bhat out of the 300 going to a insurance fund. That will pay for a elastoplas eh " last I heard this was on hold due to the hefty insurance required for covid cover but they have been trying to introduce this for donkeys yrs

"Looking more positive for tourists from autumn this year (vaccinated without quarantine)" Yep they are going into full production of the AstraZeneca vaccine. So I think the end of the year is a possibility

"One of our daughter's was getting married in March at the Marriott... Phuket... paid a hefty deposit last Feb and now they won't refund it and we have to use the money by 31 Dec this year...found out this is a franchise'd Marriot and have their own rules. " We’ve also been on the losing end of hotel deposits in Thailand. Even the travel insurance we had couldn’t recover our money because of the franchise or non franchise thing. Very frustrating.

"A good few years ago there was a 500 baht pay on atrrival entry fee into Thailand which the Thai Government then incorporated into air fares, the new 300 Baht entry tax is nothing new but if only 10 percent of the fee is for "insurance" there's a lot removed for Thai "administration" charges...... " I believe your thinking when you paid for a visa a bit like you do with Turkey (although I think they have changed to online visa charging now) the "tax" thing has been banded about for years but never implemented. The scarey addition this time round though is they want you to also have a trackable sim
