"Looking through my looked at me list and a word keeps coming up and that's. 'professional' why would I give a dam does it make you a better shag than me a charity volunteer ! No it does not. does it make me more likely to meet you no. In fact I much much less likely to meet someone who bangs on about Being professional. I don't have issues with those who are but do I need to know to make a decision on if we compatible sexually ? no so its for your ego it gives no indication on what you want or enjoy sexually so what's the point ?" I do find it annoying when people ask what I do for a living; a couple of times the answer has resulted in a block - but that's just how it is on here - some people seem to believe that a person's profession is an indicator of whether they're compatible - and maybe they're right ? It's not something that bothers me but hey one thing I've learnt on here is it really is horses for courses in the swinging world and you just have to let others get on with it without getting hung up about it

"I think a lot of people who use the word don't actually understand its meaning. Besides, I'm not sure I'd want to shout about it on here if I were a doctor or a solicitor or something. " Exactly and there are a great many real professionals frequenting the site who would not dream of using the term to describe themselves in their ordinary lives, let alone in the swinging world. Socio-economic descriptors have morphed considerably since they were used by our Victorian and Edwardian ancestors to confirm and cement their understanding of social standing and hierarchy. Another term that was common between the late 19th and early 20th century was "in trade", used primarily by the upper classes to describe those in the upper-middle and middle classes who had to work for a living rather than living off passive income from vast land and property rentals. It is a term you seldom hear these days but had a condescending tone, even if those it was applied to had considerably more disposable income than the asset rich but cash poor classes that used it to label them as socially inferior. English economic and social culture is complicated and shaped by centuries of snobbery and inverted snobbery. Probably something that will not be resolved in the pages of Fabswingers. A highly interesting discussion nonetheless.

Me me me me. There are other people reading the profile remember? I don't think its for someones ego that they include the word professional in their profile. I think it's used to quickly give an overall impression of work, dress, attitude, appearance etc. I imagine a lot of folk would find a professional attractive and more desireable, like a lot of landlords (would suit professionals). The fact this "professional" word gets under your skin so much would prompt me to say that perhaps the problem here lies a little closer to home ![]()

"Just checked my profile - doesn't contain the word professional. Last time I was on here pretty sure it did. Has it's presence, or lack of now, affected the level of meets i've had, the types of people i've met or who have chosen to drop me a line? Not in the slightest. Do I care if it's on someone elses? Nope! Although did see one who's headline was 'professional bi woman' - now that's a job i'd love! Just don't think i've got the qualifications required! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Well, it's each to their own. Personally, I find men who are proper 'professionals' a real turn on. I fantasize about being fucked by my doctor ( Who is absolutely gorgeous.) I find something very sexy about a man in a suit who knows how to use his brain and has had an education. I'm strongly attracted to intelligent men. I like a woman that is beautiful, strong, and in control, I don't mind her knowing that that is what she is and I certainly find a woman that manipulates a situation to her advantage to be a real scorcher! ![]()

"For us it's shorthand for middle class. It's a crass term, granted, but compatibility outside the bedroom is our preferred guide for compatibility within the bedroom. Whether the term has put off couples we'd have clicked with from ever getting in touch, who knows. Suffice to say we've had fantastic experiences and met enough super people and couples that it isn't something we lose sleep worrying over. Everyone's profile is designed to attract the type of people they want to meet. That is something to be celebrated, not castigated. " Save your breath!

I glad you wil only meet those like you coz I would hate to meet someone so up themselves there's no room for my tong. ![]() Well you've cut off all you're holes anyhow, you've got your knickers in a knot over a simple word so that's two down and you're spouting s*#t out of the other. If you don't like the word then move on and get over it, paid or unpaid, working or not, its the attitude some people have that makes peoples minds up about someone and yours is a little bit stinky if I'm honest... People you seem to be looking for would likely not use the word anyway as they're all past retirement age (and do you see me gettin all pishy cos I don't see myself as old and that's what you're seeking?... No, Its a relief) Do you get so uptight when people put on their profile that they want to meet people who are issue free as I suppose that rules you out too! "I guess they are trying to imply a level of education and therefore their ability to converse well. Of course it doesn't mean it I work in office full of professionals some of whom are painfully shy, some lacking any apparent awareness of anything around them although actually their a pretty good bunch." Richard branson achieved nothing education wise yet something tells me he is a rather astute professional who can hold rather a decent conversation ! To me I see when people say " professional " its like they are saying that for whatever reason they would be more attractive to people like the common person .... "I dont think these people are belittling you're "profession" of charity work... I have seen the word on many profiles and I just took it as, and I could be wrong, they are in a job where they wouldn't be comfortable, or it might not go down well for them if their colleagues were to find out what they did in their private time... Particularly their swinging activities! I think when people use the word they are just reassuring you of their discretion and expressing their desire for the same so while I agree that discretion is something that the majority of us would have anyway without the need of the word, if it helps them to feel more secure and comfortable in meeting then its just a word. And to be totally honest id rather meet with people similar to us who do work for a living ![]() That is the exact reason that we have it in our profile, its not a boast its just to inform people that we both work and value discretion. ![]()

"I think the idea of stating your a professional is to attract a certain type of person, maybe they are in a high paid job and like to eat in certain restaurants or book higher class hotel than a travel lodge, to meet people who are on the same educational level as them so they have things in common to talk about, and not have to worry about meeting people who's income is to low to afford the type of places they want to use for meets, to some this is more tha just turning up for a fuck, they like to connect on a mental level and maybe they feel they can do that with someone whos on national minimum wage and had to worry about if they can afford to use the hotel suggested There are loads of odd things i find on here but people are entitled to meet who they like, without question " The funny bit though is that some people use it in the 'I'm a partner in a small firm of solicitors sense', and some in the 'I'm the kind of person an estate agent would rent a scabby flat in the suburbs to' sense, and mutual confusion ensues. As for me, I'm just an amateur at everything....

"The story of this thread is the inverted snobbery is much more prevalent (and objectionable) than snobbery and true to form the inverted snobs do their level best to bring everyone down to their level. The tactics of humiliation, insults and bullying are quite normal for the inverted snob to use to attempt to bring the snob from "out of their own arse" and "down a peg or two." The snob meanwhile, carries on regardless keeping as much distance as possible from the negativity. Us? - Yes - we are swinging snobs and would never associate with the type of person that takes time out to make an issue of a profile that uses the word professional as means of selectivity. Yours etc Hyacinth............ ![]() Buck it!
