However, I hate fake tan. To my eyes 90% of the time, it just looks unhealthy.

I like the glow a nice tan brings and I like having a tan myself (when I can be bothered). Fan of some fake tans too although hate smelling like biscuits after. Some people look great without though so I guess each to their own?

If you close you’re eyes and look directly at the sun just 30 seconds a day, particularly important this time of year , early or late unless you have spf15, you get the best skin , no lotions potions or fave tans come close , plus all the VitD you need

Even with gradual tan on I look pale

I prefer to use gradual tan (not full on fake tan), feel more confident not looking like a ghost

I'm a dark brunette with no tan. Sunscreen all year round. Never applied fake tan, never will, and although I tan a lot naturally if I'm not careful... I'm very careful.
