Coil fitting

Has anyone of you ladies had a problem having a mirena coil fitted? The nurse couldn't get mine far enough in, which means I'm not sure what to do now.

Mine went in but was uncomfotable. Dr said i needed to relax more. Maybe you will be advised to try again. Your Dr will know best what step to take next.

Maybe try again at a different time of the month. Your cervix moves around so it’s easier to have it fitted when you’re on, but when you’re on you’re a bit more wimpy so it feels like it hurts more. Vicious cycle pardon the pun

Once it’s in it’s in though. I had difficulties but went back again and it was fine.

Pretty bad experience getting mine in, 3 different doctors tried, was sent to a consultant in Lichfield who was brilliant at it apparently, if he couldn't do it then I'd have to have a light general to put it in.

It was a struggle, it was very painful but I encouraged him on, he actually had tears in his eyes but DID fit it.

It's overdue ,well overdue for removal but still working. Free from truly dreadful cycles for years.

They always struggle with mine as my womb is tipping the wrong way. Just takes some positioning on my part and patience for them. Xx

I had huge issues with nurse not being able to fit it. So painful. Ended up seeing gynaecologist at hospital who fitted it in nanoseconds. Didn't feel a thing x

Thanks ladies, I have had 2 coils before and my last one fell out when I had a smear test a year ago.. which is why I'm puzzled that the nurse couldnt get one in me.

Aware that I am not female (wow, really?) but my ex partner had major issues with hers. From pain all the time, to the point sex became impossible anyway, and the hormones from the coil really got to her. Ended us as a couple eventually. I've since heard from many others that hormone coils gave them the same depression and mood swings. So they went to copper coil and have not looked back. Probably pointless, just thought I'd mention.

Any sensible comments welcome so not a problem. It's true different coils work for different people.. I know.the hormonal one has worked for 10 years in the past for me.. it's just the problem of having it put in

My second one was put in under general anaesthetic. I was having a procedure which required the removal of the one I had so the surgeon agreed to put the next one in.

Maybe you need to see a different nurse or have it put in in a hospital environment.

My second one was put in when I went to have the first one removed as it had become lodged somewhere.. but if it came to the only option being general anaesthetic then I'd just not bother...

I'm tempted to find a different place to go and try to have one fitted there.. maybe it was just the nurse wasnt upto much. Or perhaps.just the wrong time of the month...

I had mine put it at the same time as a hysteroscopy and had no problems or pain....however the hormonal emotions are very very real

You are better off having it fitted while having your period according to the doctor who did mine. I was lucky, the first one went in easily (well as easily as they can) and as I said the second was under general. I don't think they offer a general unless you're already having a gynaecological procedure but a hospital environment where they have more equipment and (hopefully) more experienced people available if someone is having problems fitting it might be better

I wa son my first day of period when she tried.. which would have thought was the best time, but apparently I've heard the day after you finish is meant to be better cos of the position of the cervix..

I understand that. I would be reluctant after a failed attempt. Our daughter decided to have one fitted after discussing it with me and the nurse had great difficulty although she eventually managed to do it. I don't think she'll be having a second one.

In fairness I didnt feel any pain atall and she tried a few times..

So it's not the pain that would put me off...

Its more the laid there legs open and spread apart by someone... if you get what I mean ?

My wifes had 2 both of which have fallen in time, have caused pain, lots of issues and both when trying to get removed had twisted, torn her, hurt her, made her bleed badly and the doctors panicked and tried pushing it back up and made it worse, in the end she had to go to a specialist, get numbed then then basically tore it out! It was horrible as she was in pain for a while for no reason

Totally! And not in a good way. A doctor was checking the strings of mine for me once, as he was elbow deep () the nurse chaperone suddenly said "why have you got a spanner in your medical bag?" he started to laugh, I started to laugh which caused all sorts of problems and we all had to wait until we'd calmed down and start again. Not the most dignified laugh I've ever had

Apparently I've been really lucky with mine (my first), as it went in no bother. Bit of bleeding and discomfort for the first 12 hours or so but since then it's been fine.

Probably coming up to the end of it's run now though, hope I can get it replaced similarly easily.

They seem to last allot longer than the 5 years they quote... I kept.mine in till it stopped working... was about 8 years...
