I feel for his wife, 27 years in a sham marriage. Heartbreaking.

It's a hard thing to come out, even in today's society. It's better than it used to be but there's still problems. At least he is at peace with himself.

I don't see what comment the poster above was trying to make with anal sex. It's a sexual position and it's not exclusive to gay men. Straight, gay, lesbian couples can all enjoy it.....or not. Just because you're gay doesn't mean that you automatically like it, it's an option but, statistically, more gay men dislike anal sex than those that do.

The one thing about this situation is that coming out is still a big deal to the press and the public. It's his private life and you should be allowed to be you. I don't have to come out as straight. We will never have equality whilst this is seen as newsworthy. Same sex couples still get stares and comments when holding hands in public. Some people are gay, get over it x

Assumes that because someone is gay they take it up the arse, for your information, not all gay men indulge in anal sex top or bottom.

Firstly - I happen to love taking up the arse on occasion. That’s an activity that’s by no means exclusive to gay men.

Secondly - my sympathies are also entirely with Mrs Schofield - he’s receiving nationwide support whilst she’s just discovered that the last few decades have been a sham!

It’s been perfectly acceptable to be gay for at least this century (and the latter part of the 20th Century to a lesser degree).

I think he was wrong not to do this far sooner. He could have told her quietly rather than ‘coming out’ so publicly if he wished!

I ignorantly assumed all gay male couples would have anal too, as blowjobs are more 'soft swing' oral

Has she been living a sham? Does sexual persuasion preclude love of an alternative sex? Surely there is more to marriage.

On the timing and situation of his pronouncement; I believe you might find that his hand was forced and a third party was looking to ‘cash in’ on a kiss and tell; I think it is appalling that cheque book journalism still rules.

As for Mr Schofield’s sexuality, or indeed anyone else’s; live, love, be happy, be kind and be as open as you personally wish to be.

sham

1. a thing that is not what it is purported to be.

2. falsely present something as the truth.

Yep, I'm pretty sure it was a sham marriage. He was pretending to be something he's not.

As for loving someone, there's different types of love. I love my dog but I'm not going to marry it, I love my daughter but I'm not going to jump into bed with her. That's extremely naive to think that people would be happy in a marriage knowing that they aren't found physically desirable by their spouse.

If his hand was forced for having to come out, the positive is that his wife will have the chance to find true love. It would be extremely sad if she never had that, even if it was just for one day x

Very true. If a man cheats on a woman with another woman, he's a scoundrel. If he cheats on her with a man, he's misunderstood, struggling with his own identity etc. I know it's difficult to come out but how can you constantly lie to someone you supposedly love for nearly 30 years and still sleep at night? x

There is far too much emphasis being put on a persons sexuality these days.... No one on here knows what Philip Schofields life and arrangement with his wife was like. For all we know she may have been 100% behind him for the sake of his family and her comfortable life. He may have been Gay but he and his wife may have been deeply in love.......we are only judging him and his wifes relationship by the shit in the Gutter Press, maybe why I havent bought a tabloid since Sam Fox graced the pages........ The person I would attack is the snyd little shit who threatened to out him .......what right did he think he had to share someones sexuality because he was shunned or wanted to make a quick buck little git.

Our sexual preferences are our own like our thoughts our colour our creed and our religious beliefs and only when they topple into harming the greater public interest should they be challenged.

And no I wouldnt sleep with him hes too camp and if anyone was surprised by this OUTING then im stunned......get your gaydar checked its probably failty lol lol

I'm not sure if you're a snowflake, naive, dim or the permanently offended. The comparison is between a person's sexual preferences and the public's perception of them. The comparison is not between two people. Don't try to twist people's comments to satisfy your own agenda and start a hate war. If you bothered to read my other comments you will see that you are incorrect in your judgment. People need to stop labelling others with offensive monikers simply because they don't like what is being said and can't engage in a detailed discussion. Shame on you.

"So are you saying that he could fancy young children but as long as he didn't touch them it is OK? That's sick."

Now who's twisting words. The point I'm making (and I realise I'm probably wasting my time) is that Jimmy Savile was a rapist. Not just of young children, of teenage girls too. His activities were heinous crimes. That's what his downfall was about. Not his sexual preferences.

Philip Schofield on the info so far has committed no crimes. They are not comparable situations. That's what I said. I can't make it any clearer. If you can't follow that then sorry but that's the best I can do.

I'm not sure you grasp what a comparison is. Another user stated that they didn't care what a TV star does in their private life so long as you enjoy what they do on TV. I begged to differ with my case in point. I could use Harvey Weinstein as an example. You can't overlook how one's private life impacts their professional one. You have agreed with me on this so why are you fighting?

I'm not too bothered, but none of us know what his marriage has been like and the fact that his wife and daughters are standing by him, speaks for itself, IMO

I'm not a celebrity news chaser. I saw they'd discussed it for some time as a family, so it's not a surprise. He hadn't understood that he was gay when they married, reportedly.

It supports other people, including in fab, who hadn't realised that they had same sex sex possibilities until they were quite mature. Just because your known sexuality was clear to you, it doesn't mean that everyone's is.

It's their marriage, so it's for them to decide on their futures. There may never have been any deception at all, apart from to the outside world, who have no rights to know.

He's really not my type.

Sexuality changes. It's a bit silly burning your bridges like he is doing. There's no need for it, unless someone was about to spill the beans to his wife anyway. I can't understand why he can't have been a bit more private about it. Why do people in media feel they have to have this great big coming out thing.

Seems a bit like they crave the attention and want the headlines.

I totally agree with you here. And to go further I don't see why people should feel they need to come out to the world, it's nobodies business other than family and close friends. It's not uncommon for people to realise they are gay later in life, so many judgements being made on here by people with 'straight' in their profiles, how could they possibly be a position to judge, they have no idea about being gay. We do not know the whole back story here, we only know what Philip Schofield said and what the press are reporting, the press don't always get it right and the family may be keeping some details private because it's no of our business

How do people claiming Mrs. Scofield has only just found out know this?

In absense of any statement from either of them, its quite possible that she has known for a lot longer than Joe Public.

Really pissed off by his fellow so called celebrities saying how brave he is for coming out, our men and women in the forces are brave, our police are brave, Phillip Scolfield is not brave.

Why is he still making statements in the press.

Why didn’t he just make the statement that he was gay and insist that was the only statement he would make and refuse to discuss it further.

Obviously he is getting paid for every time he makes a statement, also he is using this to keep himself in the limelight because that’s more important to these so called celebrities.

"I feel for his wife, 27 years in a sham marriage.

i said exactly this the other day but of course being the sexy woman you are it will be heard lol
