Interesting question, actually! I think a lot of alt/rock/skater/emo type chaps look less.... "pronounced" as they get older (for example, I was all bright coloured hair, massive trousers, and more wallet chains than Jacob Marley when I was young. These days I'm just tattoos and band t shirts) whereas ladies can rock a strong goth look their whole life and look fantastic.

I wonder if age, or the perception of age, plays any part in how people may enjoy the alt-guy look?

Alt guys of all types and ages definitely catch my eye! Not into the 'check out my ink and trimmed beard' men though. Got to be the real OG.

Despite being a goth myself I’m not really into the emo or goth guys. Really pulled towards the viking look. Bearded, muscular and tattooed really tickles my pickle

Is it just about the looks?

I'm into the music, I used to skate when I was younger, but I don't have the stereotypical look of an alt-guy. Do you have to look a certain way to be considered something or is it about personality / taste too?

I've had people act surprised when I say I listen to Metallica because I don't look like I do. I had an emo chick comment on an old dating profile pic one day saying I looked like a chav because I was dressed in a shirt in a nightclub.

I just can't pull off the look. I can't grow my hair long, if I wear a band t-shirt I look like a poser (read: twat), I don't have piercings or tattoos.

Many years ago when I first met C I had given up on men because I couldn't find a guy who liked rock and metal. My mate would drag me to the local nightclub and it was boring for me!!

She knew C and he started to chat me up and I was like sorry I like guys with a decent music taste... turns out he was into metal too just didnt look it.

And the time he attempted to grow his hair long... he looked like a stereotype butch lesbian
