For my dissertation in 1995 I argued that goth subculture is the only subculture where women do not get judged for having a sex drive and the feminine is more highly regarded than the masculine.

I’m not saying that there isn’t sexism in goth culture but there is less of it than in other sub cultures.

I was a goth but no longer.

Certainly love the look of that whole scene . Always have . Absolutely women with piercings and ink is a big plus for me . Not completely crazy over the top stuff though . Just a bit of an 'edgy vibe' from a woman is great .

The look doesn't automatically mean S&M etc though ( learned that to my cost!) And I am probably generalising but on a personal level I find the people who are perhaps looking or dressing different kind of far more interesting ,worldly wise , not focussed on material things and just generally cooler and easier to get on with than well dressed suited / frocked and booted types . Everyone has their own tastes of course but give me a night in a loud boozy rock pub or club as opposed to a fancy dinner party or wine bar anyday .

Me to ... have a look at 26th December pic, took MrsHitNotts shopping in Void goth shop and then did a photo shoot. She has tongue, ears, nose, nipples and belly button piercings so far, just deciding what’s next

Think it’s how you present yourself and the type of tats you have tbh. A mainstream woman is unlikely to have mine as quite a gothic/alt influence to them. My back piece is covering my old ones more now, but they were mainly black, gothic and tribal- even my fairy and angel were black x

I can put a dress from Pretty Little Thing on, for example, and people can still tell I’m an alt girl because of the ink that adorns me x
