There seems to be an ever increasing amount of profiles that say the following or are on similar lines :-

Not looking for single guys

Men

Aged from 26 to 56 only for example

What the hells going on? Not looking for single guys but looking for men?

So you try and message them and of course you can't.

Personal preference.

It's a way filtering out what they are looking for by limiting unwanted messages.

Usually preference but mostly to keep the choice in the woman's hands if she had it open the volume of single males that would message them will probably be ridiculous and save saying no thanks or getting annoyed just have a filter then if they want to meet a single Male they will find the one who they fancy

If "Not looking for single guys" is displayed, it means that the profile has blocked single guys from messaging. Even if they are still looking for men.

Don't find us, we'll find you, sort of thing.

It’s because just by having looking for men just makes every single local one message you. By not letting them be able to, you can just message the ones you actually think look okay. Anything to stem the amount of messages from guys is a great thing. We’ve completely taken them off and do the searching ourselves.

I think it is more "to avoid being pelted with oranges as soon as you enter the shop you say you don't want oranges and then go to them once you have cleared the line of fire!"

I think the ops point is that they are both blocking men, and also saying they only want to meet men. For some reason that is a thing you can genuinely setup if you press the right buttons. I suspect it's a bug that's gone unfixed because why the fuck would anyone ever actually do it?

As for a surge in users...speaking as a programmer, the fact that a profile is active before you validate your email means that it would be laughably easy to create a million fake users on here if you were, I dunno, say Sydney University looking to do a study. (Shockingly, bot's don't have to honour copy/paste notices!)

I reckon some...what's the word The Sun uses? Boffin? Some boffin is doing something weird. Prob just mass grabbing pics or something.

Its definitely not a bug. They dont want men to message then. It's so simple, they want to be able to search and message men first if they tickle their fancy

But to be honest, I think some of you went straight for the PM/reply button without really reading my post as well. I never said that. I said that you can set your profile to simultaniously only want to meet men, then also block all men, and I think that's what the OP is on about?

I mean, that's a weird thing to want, right? I want to meet men but not talk to men? (Speaking as a bi guy, the opposite is also true; there are straight guys who've mistakenly offered to meet guys while also setting to not want to meet guys. And enough of them that the recent post wall is half useless because it's all straight guys.

Unless there's some nuance I'm missing here? If so please let me know!

There is...

If you don't block men you are inundated with messages/cock pics.

You can search for men and send the ones you fancy a message. They can then reply.

I'm aware this is only rewriting what has been written above but...

If you delete 'men' from your looking for list it takes you off their searches and reduces mail. They can still find you in other ways (forum posts, pics etc) but it really does kill the mail.
