Long term depression here, Fab doesn't exactly help in that regard but it's also my main source of social interaction these days.

Yes I have suffered depression in my time. Controlled now by mindfulness and anti-depressants, although the latter dims my libido sometimes.. Bit annoying.

I myself have suffered from depression and found swinging dulled the sadness but its all fake concern waiting for when I felt better so we could play, then abuse when I declined.

Also poor sunny was accused of taking advantage of a vulnerable adult so we are very weary now and barly meet.

True. We all have physical health and some times we’re a little under the weather be it a stomach or head ache. So we must have mental health. Currently standing in a ledge with an axe. I’m only human...

Diagnosed with CPTSD after a long abusive relationship.

I'm learning triggers etc, we both are.

Had a full on breakdown a few years ago. I'm all good for the main part but I do struggle with trying to work out what is "worth" stressing over if that makes sense. Like I can't tell if I'd have been reacting the same way to situations before the abuse or as a result of the abuse and it's effects. That fucks me off coz it's almost like I don't know myself at times as reactions can take me by surprise.

B is really understanding. It's tough though, as I feel guilty at times that he's almost like a Guinea pig as he's my first proper relationship since then.

I've never suffered from depression or anxiety but after living with someone for 14 years that suffered with both the biggest thing I can say help the most way regular exercise and eating somewhat healthy, something like squash is very good gets rid of a lot of aggression, anger and frustration

We are always in the process of evolving. Even without the abuse, you'd be a different person to the one 10/20/30 years. So stop worrying whether you react the way you do due to post or pre abuse, but learn who you are and accept yourself, then with talking therapies eg cbt, learn how to move forward.

Hardly anyone doesn't. I am always suspicious of those that have never had any and mock those struggling.

I don't like mental illness, but most come out of it a better person and more understanding of others, so can't all be bad.

Things start ramping up towards the end of the year.

Hi Claire,

glad in " fab" you,ve found a distraction that works for you.

Brave of you to share with others to.

I ,ve suffered in past ,and yes have constant fear it will return.

I like so many was I denial for so long.

I suppose I,m similar as you in fab ,though not been member of fab long.Find that now accept fantasizing about naughtyness and occasional play helps .Though mainly it's the simple everyday interactions with others I value more now.

I think it can be damaging to romanticize mental illness. It doesn't always make someone a 'better person'- sometimes the pain and the damage done by others is so severe that the person experiencing it is like an animal caught in a trap, hurting and angry and confused. The only problem is that the trap is in their own mind and there is no way out.

I'm experiencing suicidal ideation at the moment and it doesn't make me a better person. It just means I am lashing out at everyone but I have nobody in my life to be there for me and help me.

I wanted to understand what 'social depression' was, so I Googled it. Turns out it's not a separate thing to depression. Sometimes people like to educate themselves, you know, so they can better understand those around them.

Fab and clubs were my escape from my haze of depression. Strange to explain that feeling of me not being me when I was in club, but then had to go home and be me again.and the vicious circle started again. Because of that I practically lived in a club till I met Del,,, and my life changed. And we still go to club I still get bouts of depression but nowhere near as bad... there is light at the end of that depression tunnel.k

Yes but you questioned that it even existed. That wasn't needed or helpful. It's great to educate yourself but not post unhelpful comments. "

Empirically, it doesn't exist. I'm not saying the person doesn't have depression, and it's shitty that they do and I empathise. All I am saying is that diagnostically, 'social depression' isn't a separate sector of depression. I like to read about things because I am autistic and I find facts comforting, sorry if that offended anyone

Hey.

ASD here. Relatively well functioning.

But it has its downsides. Obviously.

I can shun mostly everything and everyone. And then feel lost. Fab is a useful link to other humans. But to be taken under extreme caution.

Oh and I have at least 3 personalities. Tricky.

Anyway. If anyone ever wants to say hi. Please do. I’m quite a good online chatter.

I learnt a long time ago to not take this place to seriously.

It can become all consuming and take over you're life.

It took a very good friend on here to make me see through the trees and wake me up to the fact no one matters.

Except yourself. So I take breaks from here and my social media foot print is very small.

No Facebook etc it's the devil's playground and only takes one negative comment for your world to come crashing down.

I don't look for meets so there is no pressure.

If something happens, so be it. If not doesn't matter.

Put yourself first if everything.

If others don't like that then they can do one. You don't need them hanging around.

Niki Lauda said famously ' I have no friends ' and this upset people.

He had to protect himself from people who wanted this money etc and this and that. He asked ' where is the 24hour friend I can call when I need someone, and to be honest I cannot think of one'.

You can find the video of this on YouTube.

And that's people in a Nutshell. most only want to know when they want something so protect yourself.

They are energy vampires and any secrets you give up they will stab you in the back with later.

So protect yourself. The people that are right for you will stay with you and look out for you.

You may think I'm harsh but life teaches you that kindness is a weakness and you will be taken advantage of.

Protect number 1.

I find this interesting as I had the exact same thing (diagnosed with BPD then autism)

Did your autism diagnosis 'overwrite' your BPD diagnosis? My GP was keen to explain my behaviours through autism and was inclined to dismiss the previous BPD diagnosis, but I have some behaviours that are not linked to autism (or ADHD, depression or PTSD)

It's horrendous to think anyone should be lonely in this day and age, but it's also true to say you can be lonely in a crowd. On a lower level I've seen many single guys in clubs looking really uncomfortable as they have no one to even talk to, but on a much bigger level we have to keep an eye out for one another as human beings first and foremost. I'm lucky in that I have at least half a dozen other guys who I can pick up the phone to at any time if I'm struggling. It helps that we shared the same experiences a few years back, but is also the biggest comfort to know I won't feel stupid if I say I'm not ok at any given time. It doesn't matter what your issues are ladies and gents - if it's something troubling you then it's very real for you. Never, EVER just keep it all to yourself and suffer. Sometimes talking to a stranger is a good way to go and all it takes is to get the first word out. Big love peeps!

I would really love to, however I am autistic and have some issue with social interaction , like not looking people in the eye, and my confidence is non existent. But other than that it's something I would consider as I've never done it before x

Same. We should form an autistic meet up, with no pressure for eye contact, where we can all stim with abandon and talk about our special interests "

It would be really to have a meet like this with no pressures of expectations , would be nice to feel comfortable around people who would understand about things

I work in the mental health sector and suffer from mild PTSD...fall out from a previous destructive long term relationship. I would encourage everyone to find the courage to acknowledge when they believe they are experiencing mental health issues and to seek support, whether that is from a professional, a support group, a trusted friend or even through talking to the type of kind and empathetic people involved in this thread, as evident in this thread, you are not alone and there are people dealing with the same or similar issues as you who may have developed some great strategies that may also work for you. Best wishes to all x

Not all anti depressants have the same reaction, it’s very much a try and see approach

I second that sometimes talking to a stranger helps you sort through your feelings an I'm always happy to listen

Totally agree, as someone who suffers with Lonliness , Somedays I don't see or talk to anyone physically , so aome days I come on here as it can be my only social interaction I get all day "

"What is eupid?

Iv just copied and pasted this from the mind Website as it gives a good basic overview.

Emotionally unstable personality disorder, EUPD, or Borderline Personality Disorder as it is also called, describes the problems you experience if you are emotionally unstable, anxiety-ridden and have a pattern of self-destructive behaviour. ... Many people with EUPD describe a feeling of emptiness and identity problems.

Think about the language.

By calling it "my bulimia" you're claiming it.

Belonging to you, yours for all time.

It may not make much of a difference but try just calling it the bulimia. That way it isn't so much yours and yours for all time. If you have a stinking cold you call it a cold not my cold.

I know the 2 aren't comparable in the sense one goes on it's own and the other takes work, but I hope you get the jist

My therapist says you have to 'claim it to tame it'

Think of mental illness like a big black beast of a dog (or other, less likeable creature)

You have to claim it as your own else it just runs amok, causing havoc. If you claim it, you can tame it.

I've suffered with depression for years which has over recent times led to anxiety - I can't look forward to something because anxiety and excitement are very similar emotions, except excitement doesn't have the "sting" in the tail. It unfortunately leads to detatchment, it's caused the end of at least two relationships but wraps the devestation in cotton wool. I refuse anti-depressants because I still want to "feel" (I've known people on them who don't give a shit about anything - a step too far) but neither do I want this forever. I can trace it back to the age of 8, and I'm sick and tired of it. Fab is great because you don't form emotional connections, but don't think it solves every problem. From every high you plummet to a low.

Combined ADHD, can be really awkward at time because I cannot choose what to focus on, even when I really should...can happen at any time.

Recent studies have suggested trying to force focus actually makes it worse.

Flip side is hyper focus - when nothing else will distract me & you can learn/do loads in a relatively short space of time.

Hyperactive - this can be mentally, physically or both. Bouncing off the walls like a kid, talking so much you can't keep up (subjects flip frequently but have relation to the last) or my mind is buzzing around subjects or solving puzzles.

Many other bits too with emotion, impulse control etc.

Life long & day to day so it is part of me & will never leave. Coping strategies are a must.

We all suffer from Mental Health at some point in our lives.

Depression is one that has made me stronger once you learn to deal with it.

I would stress that online media and places like Fab can make it worse if you take things personally

The world can be rough. On here it can be testing but like anything in life there are some diamonds amongst the rest.

"Diagnosed with CPTSD after a long abusive relationship.

P

We are always in the process of evolving. Even without the abuse, you'd be a different person to the one 10/20/30 years. So stop worrying whether you react the way you do due to post or pre abuse, but learn who you are and accept yourself, then with talking therapies eg cbt, learn how to move forward.

That's a very valid point. I don't know who I'd be without it happening and I am who I am.

Thank you, and lovely to see you back x

P"

"Depression and anxiety, it's a difficult combination. I just take life one day at a time "

And a common one.

If you are worrying about something, try to recognise it and acknowledge it. Ask yourself if it is something you can do about it immediately. If not then write it down on a to do list. If you can then do that something.

Some things take a while to sort out, so write it down, write down what was done but don't cross off on the to do list.

I believe many of us worry about things cos we have many things to do. The worrying keeps us focused on things and yet in itself stops the ability to do things. Let lists become your mind and work through them in an ordered fashion.

"Hardly anyone doesn't. I am always suspicious of those that have never had any and mock those struggling.

I don't like mental illness, but most come out of it a better person and more understanding of others, so can't all be bad.

Things start ramping up towards the end of the year.

You have you! Quite often that's all any of us have. With depression it's YOU who has to do the work, others can only guide you. Be the best friend to yourself that you'd be to others - give yourself hugs, time and advice.

Try the charity Mind. Or the Samaritans if in crisis.

Sounds like your thought processes are a bit iffy. You don't have to listen to advice but simply acknowledge the people care enough to want to help. Help often doesn't come in the manner we feel we need/want but it comes from a good place.

"I learnt a long time ago to not take this place to seriously.

Protect number 1."

I won't stop being kind. Perhaps that's cos I can now protect myself online and in reality. If I become vulnerable I simply withdraw.

It's about self awareness.

"Ive had depression and anxiety all my life ,3 suicide attemps ive borderline personality disorder and now found out im autistic ,im lucky i share a house with 2 friends and they treat me like one of the family, something ive not really had and i know i can talk to them if im having a crisis..

"

Genetics and environment have a huge impact.

"I’ll admit that I’m a mental health nurse but suffer with bulimia and depression.

Sb

You are doing brilliantly and we think you are wonderful.

X

Thank you to you both, however I’m more positive but my bulimia is still there xx

P"

Taking a different perspective, especially considering the poster is a health are professional, the owning of it could simply mean she understands the different states and stages people go through, hence her bulimia is unique to her.

I often voice "my enceph headaches" for example.

I’m doing well, my mental health is great, my eating is still irratic, my manager is great though

Genuinely pleased to hear it! Might sound false coming from a complete stranger, but an awful lot of us out there have huge respect for our health care professionals. We'd be lost without you. Thank you!

I rarely post my position to be fair

That's understandable in lots of ways, but please accept the compliment. You are highly valued.

Politically we're not.

I'm not sure social depression is a thing. Nothing came up when I Googled it.

Don’t Google health related things; use NHS Inform as more precise or use specific website such as SAMH. Or even a medical dictionary.

Google is fine for finding official websites such as NHS (that was called NHS choices), NICE (but not always non-medical user friendly) and charities such as MIND.

I lost my mum a year ago after I cared for her twenty four hours a day for many years, the loss is unbearable some days and I hardly know what to do with myself. Being the age I am I find it difficult to move on, you can almost become a recluse in your grief. The mind plays many tricks on you and you can almost sent it into over drive yourself with worrying and over thinking all kinds of rubbish. At time I've thought I'm going mad but it's all a natural process of grief, the anxiety and the depression the stress, you have to find your inner self and fight the battle with your thoughts, start asking yourself, why and laugh at yourself, for over thinking. We all have good days and bad days, but you can get better, after months of utter despair. When you get down to the nitty gritty of it all... IS THERE REALLY ANYTHING IN THIS WORLD WORTH WORRYING ABOUT.... NO.. GETTING ANXIOUS ABOUT.. NO... EVERYTHING SORTS ITSELF OUT IN ONE WAY OR ANOTHER. I've set myself a goal that from January I will fight my demons, and restart my life again, after all that's what mum would have wanted, not to see me so unhappy, anxious and upset all the time.

We can chaperone and support eachother.

But I'm also articulate, intelligent, kind, caring and very experienced. Mmmm... Yup I am also a ridiculous amount of enthusiastic sexy fun too.

If Google didn’t exist, what would you do? Something as simple as a walk in the sunshine or reading a book can help.

Someone said about not getting out of bed 3 days straight but another person said to celebrate when they achieved a shower/food as they’re big steps as well.

"Diagnosed with CPTSD after a long abusive relationship.

P

Thank you.

I have a personal philosophy:

You cannot change the past but you can change how it affects your future. "

^ or as in the Lion King; the past can hurt, but either you run from it or learn from it!

Sometimes the issue is one that cannot be resolved, removed or treated.

My issues were triggered by my daughter's illness, her attempting to commit suicide on several occasions. I caught her trying to hang her self twice. She was then sectioned, a few months later developed non epileptic seizures. In the mean time my mum died unexpectedly.

My daughter still has all these issues, she cannot walk at the moment due to her NEAD, has severe autism amongst other things.

No amount of CBT or councilling helps or will resolve this. Sertraline is the one thing that keeps me from falling apart so I can care for my daughter.

A placebo or a plaster it is not to me and many others I suspect.

I tend to agree with this. Any time that I’ve been placed upon them, I just continuously get worse. I reckon that ssris are similar to the mindfulness teachings, if you believe it to work - it will. Meanwhile, those in dire straights get worse and struck off, for not thanking them for said placebo, and giving the form of “counselling” you can receive from your hairdresser.

Psychiatrists - don’t get me started on them either lol.

That's difficult that the prescribed needs aren't helping you. I hope you can talk that through with a qualified practitioner who can help try something else.

Please try not to discourage others from taking their meds.. It could be dangerous. Especially in the first few weeks of taking them when it feels side effects will never settle and your bloods haven't settled down to a maintenance dose yet. It may be that these meds are helping in ways people are unaware of and simply not taking them will, in many cases, cause a strong rebound effect where symptoms can return but really powerfully.

If people have issues with meds, please please talk to your prescribing practitioner.

G xx

I've suffered with depression and anxiety on and off for the last 15 years. Im on citalopram 20mg just came off 40mg. I have some really good days and I also some really bad days! I've been known to shut myself off for a couple or 3 days at a time in the past and just hide, but thankfully they are very rare now days.

Fab is brilliant in some ways when it's the really good days but when it's the bad days sometimes it only takes something silly like someone to just delete a message and not even say thanks for your message but your not for me type of thing that can make you question yourself, and then that leads to bad thoughts about yourself. Hope that makes some sense

Firstly I applaud the bravery to speak openly about mental health,

It took me a year to come to terms with my personal issues, I lost my mum out of the blue aged 51 to sudden death syndrome, 3 days later i lost my son.

Then followed a spiralling pitfall of clinical depression, already previously diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, I ensued onto several months of self harm, attempted suicide, sectioned under the mental health act, only now a couple months later I'm coming to terms with my condition and my needs,

Fair play for speaking up, gives people like me the courage to do the same x

Really sorry to read of your loss. Anyone would struggle with that. Finding a direction to channel your energies and efforts is imperative, something that continues to give meaning to their lives. I've used the spirit of friends and family lost to drive forward with new ambitions and its a huge help. I feel their presence as I take each step.

I have had depression and low self esteem most of my adult life.

I work full time and I am single but I still look around on here and think to myself other people don't worry half as much as you do about being seen on a swingers site.

I have 15 photos but only 1 is set to public so how I expect women and couples to be interested from 1 photo is beyond me.

"Sertraline is like a placebo! hence the big pharmacies make billions from illnes! as the doc says meds are only a plaster overe a bigger issue! true words if you accept it! if you don`t i guess you are that circle of meds,i need them, meds lol

A placebo or a plaster it is not to me and many others I suspect."

Sorry to hear of your pain in this life, i document my issues with meds and research, i take everything with a pinch of salt! meds are openly given with no other questions or referals! which raised a question to me! why? yes meds can help! i agree but are they the answer within a 10 minute meet?
