If you make things about you, rather than about him, he may remain more concerned and not feel criticised. I'd experiment with the showering together before action, so that you can evaluate whether very recent washing doesn't remove the smell. If it does, you know the cause. His hair or clothes may be another source of the problem - if it was hair, I'm guessing the problem would be more widespread amongst other guys. Fungal infections can cause aromas but you'd likely see some visual evidence.

Jeez! I couldn’t go anywhere near smelly balls! How could any guy expect to get his balls sucked if they aren’t smelling delicious!!
