I look at background every time. Empty hamster cage in background is the worst.

Not looking for a palace but just clean and tidy sets the standard i think of how the person is .

Dirty background is always off putting and minging mirrors.

You can look as gorgeous as you like but if the mirror you're standing at is horrible what's the point?
