what is it with the 'person above' threads

me and nik were discussing the threads that ask about the person above.they are nearly always men.

why do people put them up?

is it a wanting of acknowledgment?

agreed but then so can timewasters, view my profile ect ect...its the drawback of forums without stickies.

i think a few decent stickies would do wonders for the repetitive threads.

A sticky is a post that is fixed (or stuck) to the top of the page, they are usually locked so no one can post a reply

I don't think it would work because its rarely about wanting advice on a profile, even though it states it is.

It is about getting yourself noticed, being proactive on the site. It is mainly men because men have the most competition. If you put a thread up, even if the profile is two words long, people are looking rather than ignoring.

I don't believe that people really don't know how to write a few paragraphs about themselves, if they really put the effort in

And a timewasters one...also perhaps meet safety and how to spot fakes...they needent be locked though, ppl could ask there.

Damn just got into one of the "person above" threads... normally just ignore them for all the reasons above.

With new members all the time topics will always get repeated, can't avoid it even with stickies. But you can shoose which ones you read.

yeah i had one guy message me asking if i was being serious and if i wanted to meet so i said its just supposed to be a bit of fun and he got shirty with me and called me a time waster
