I know how annoying some words can be especially if a person doesn't know you.

But the first two even women use them on guys.

Surely it's just a modern annoying greeting.

As soon as I see something like that in a message it's an instant delete. It makes me shudder and immediately puts me off. I don't feel annoyed about it thoug but sometimes do think to myself "shame they've put this in a message as I liked the profile and would have been interested in chatting".

Totally agree.

Usually sent with a dick pic and from a blank avatar.

So rather than making this another moan thread, how about advising what people should include as a greeting???

Well said - perhaps ‘to whom it may concern’?

Remember, you can’t ask how people are and you can’t ask what they’re up to either. You can’t ask what they’re looking for. You cannot compliment them or even obliquely mention sex. You can’t ask what they do for work or what they do in their spare time. You can’t ask about their family or what they like or dislike in life.

Yet you’re supposed to be immediately interesting; funny; engaging; unique; cool; and attractive.

I don't mind babe or whatever (cheeky or trouble I do dislike). But I'm sure every woman rolls her eyes with the compliments sometimes. Some are genuine. But no, I'm not better than Fab. I'm not the most gorgeous woman on Fab. Shouting (via all caps) how hot you think I am makes you look deranged.

And most of the compliments are obviously copy-pasted and sent to everyone.

I use 'hun' or 'hunny' even face to face. Nobody would dare to complain

That's how I view them. I may not like the term babe, but I read it in the context it is made. A common term of endearment

I think some would also complain about the lack of messages, should they not have the volume to discount.

I have often seen pictures on profiles and think WOW!, when this happens I send a message but I always start by saying ‘i’m Not expecting a response”

The complement is ALWAYS GENUINE

You can either take it or leave it, no response required

Absolutely - bit like saying “hello mate” to a guy even if you don’t know the man

Given that this is a non instant text based format, you do actually have time to collect your thoughts. There's no need to be daft or inane.

I do like the compliments I consider genuine (although I don't always reply). But the highly exaggerated or generic just make me roll my eyes.

When I first joined fab, I had no photos at all but would get messages saying "love your pics",

"You are beautiful", "great body babe".

I don't like babe, hun etc unless it's someone I know. And I don't like smutty talk (not genuine sexy talk). Makes the guy sound immature. But it s out the ones I won't want to meet!

I guess a simple 'hello' to start a message is best. Can't remember how FWB started his first message to me, but it must have hit the right note lol

I sort of have an eye roll limit. Most of these things I'll overlook, but it gets to a certain point and I go, oh god, enough, ugh.

Just an initial hello or hello hrglass.

Mentioning something specific to my profile or pictures so I know it's not a simple cut and paste to multiple women.

I love humour too, so often something funny or quirky will grab my attention.
