So, everybody; it probably sounds daft but I think it's more intelligent to ask than stay with the doubt. On mixed nights in a club, when you want to approach couples/singles for a chat...is it normal to think that it's awkward when you try to approach people whose body language does not reveal that they are looking for people to chat to them?--if you're getting my draft.

Like, you see somebody sitting at the bar area but they're not sitting in such a way as to show that they're 'sampling the talent', so to speak. Or, they're not looking at you intently, so you cannot raise your glass at them and smile at them intently as well.

Or does the unspoken etiquette say that you should still try to catch people's attention by...going behind somebody for instance and saying 'hi there' etc or just approaching people with a smile on your face when they're chatting in a small group...
