Are they a thing, or are they an Urban Legend?

The setting, a hotel on the Costa del Sol (or anywhere abroad) and a single guy is on holiday alone. He does the usual, beach, bars, pool, bars, he then settles down for a few drinks and food in the evening.

In the bar a woman catches his his eye, she's on her own maybe slightly older, well tanned. She seems to know all the staff, clearly a local. They exchange smiles and after a few drinks begin chatting and spend a pleasant evening together that ultimately leads to them retiring to one or the others rooms.

The rest of the week is the same, beach, bars, pool during the day and dinner drinks and sex in the evening. The guy goes home with some happy memories and the hope his next holiday may follow the same template.

But, does this sort of thing actually happen?
