Has online changed our behaviour?

Have online sex and dating sites changed our behaviour? Are we more critical of people, knowing that there is always an opportunity to look for someone ‘better’? Are we less prepared to compromise? Or less prepared to spend time getting to know someone in case someone more exciting comes along? Your thoughts and experiences welcome.

I've never really been prepared to compromise - then again maybe this question doesn't apply to me because I don't know a time before online dating etc. I still met and do meet people away from online and act the same in both scenarios.

I do think that people are more likely to hold out for their ideal one now - small flaws before that might have been overlooked are instant dealbreakers (I'm going with my friends tales of online dating here!).

Do you think ‘the ideal one’exists, or are people seeking an unattainable ideal? Do you know people who have found their perfect person?

Ermm the ideal for at the time yes. People change too much for there to be a perfect one. Well that's what I think. Because now you have a smorgasbord of options open to you, it makes sense you'll want to see what works best for you rather than sticking to mild cheddar.

Yes, I know a few who have met their perfect person.

I think the number of potential people you can meet online is so much larger than would be possible in person, plus the fact that a service like this is accessible 24/7, has made us both more demanding and possibly less easily satisfied - or perhaps more curious to see what else is out there.

I don’t know. Generally I figure no one is going to be ‘perfect’ and I’d rather explore a possibility than not. Boring but true answer. I’ve known a few people who’ve spent years pursuing perfection and never getting beyond really superficial, short relationships. I don’t think that would be fun.

I would definitely agree that the availability of online dating services and sex sites has definitely resulted in people being picky. But yet again the media and the perfect look could also be blamed for this attitude of having someone of perfect looks.

I would say yes. The Internet has allowed us to become a lot picker about who we choose to have sex with. And yes, we do reject people for the slimmest of silly reasons, myself included.
