Hey guys I’m thinking of getting my first tattoo, but I’m pretty oblivious when it comes to what to look for in an artist. Are there any clear do’s and don’ts when it come to getting your first tattoo??

any help whatsoever would be appreciated

Ask if they have a portfolio somewhere showcasing their best work.

I picked mine because the ship was reccomended to be but this artist specialises in creepy/morbid/weird

Decide what you want. Research an artist that does that style of tattoo. Or do what I did and throw ideas around with an artist and then trust him to do a sleeve!

Also, always look at pics of actual pieces the artist has previously done

Once you know what tattoo want thsts when you look for an artist. Most will specialise in a particular area like portrait or Japanese ect. Go to their shop and look through their portfolio, see if you like their previous work and chat to them about what you want.

I believe tattoos are a fashion item that you may get tired off like clothes and art and hair cuts.Only thing is you are stuck with a tattoo. BE very sure before u pick.

Research an artist who specialises in that particular style of tattooing i.e watercolour or realism. Maybe go to some conventions. Check out their work, obviously cost can be a factor but as norman collins said 'cheap work aint good and good work aint cheap' Have a consultation etc. Get a good nights sleep and avoid alcohol etc. Take sugary sweets, water and some carbs, headphones oh and warm socks if its a long session
