In my teenage years it was only used as an insult.

That sticks for me.

I don't know. I am frequently referred to as a slut.

I think it's more in how the word is used rather than the word itself.

That’s why my first response was confirming most were linking it to a woman

No man on here was agreeing they were called it for sleeping with a few / lots of others

But are happy to call women it for the same reason

And it sadly has got negative connotations with it

Read the book. That is all about how we can reclaim the word to be a positive thing.

Slut is traditionally an insult aimed at females, although it’s definitely used to describe both sexes a lot more than it was.

I think as time has passed its used differently, but referring to a female as a slut has always, until more recently when many have started to reclaim the word, been considered a negative along the same lines as calling someone a whore.

It's a really interesting one for me. I describe myself as a slut. To me it means someone who loves sex and lots of it! I don't use it as a pejorative term. That being said, it's only one part of me...I'm also a mother, a professional, a fool! Being a slut doesn't define me, it's just one aspect of who I am.
