Clubs can keep your motivation BUT...you need to decide on what you want out of it.. I mean, some guys (especially) want to scream along the streets at high speed and then they lose members/riders...come clubs have sections for different abilities... I on my days off do a mixed club run (my regular ride buddies and some from a local group and we go on a no average speed, no drop ride...usually 30-60 miles (depending on weather/local road closures/events) and it's a mixed group now of sexes too....

Clubs can be very clique to new comers, and very elitist, depending on the club. Get the right club tho and it’s like riding with a big group of your mates. Although I would say, make sure you join the right group! The first club ride I did I joined the C group who noted they did 12-14mph. I figured that was about me as a newbie. Turned out that C group was a bunch of tourers in their 60’s and 70’s+ and I turn up with my road bike looking really out of place! I still went for the ride and they were a good laugh! It was nice to be the fastest on the group, plus I impressed them with my speedy tube change

I haven’t been out with a club yet. Too nervous. Think I’ll be too slow. I average 12-15MPH at mo zwift training and outdoors training solo.

Dependant on the club there can be plenty of benefits. But I've been in cycling all my life (3rd generation, parents raced, grandparents CTC stalwarts) and sadly the recurging themes of elitism and cliques amhave always existed.

I rode a few tt's with a local club a few years back, rode a basic track bike with no aero kit and was openly belittled by riders with all the gear. Other clubs are nothing like that though!!

Clubs provide different things, some are effectively racing teams, others are focused on youth development, my local club are very track focused and some are more about social rides. So find a club that matches what you want and have a broad spread of riders.

Joining a decent club and you'll learn loads, get fitter and have plenty of fun

As others have said club riding brings many benefits and you can learn alot.

If you find a big enough club there will be groups to cater for most.

If a group adopts the policy of leaving you if you get dropped find another club as this is about fun.

As swingers we all apreciate group fun is better than going solo and cycling is the same.

A decent club will take you on many adventures often to ride in sunnier climes.

My annual trip to majorca sees 150 riders of all levels from all different parts of the country enjoy April sunshine.

From the elite pros to the cake cruisers there is always something to try.

North Bristol

I went for my first ride in what must be near on a year earlier this week. It reminded me of so many things.

- How much I love biking

- How much I hate British roads

- Sore arses

- Gloves are ace

- Post exercise endorphins

- I want a new bike

- Be careful of riding too far with the wind, its a bitch coming home!

It's tough with a young family and a looong commute, but given enough planning, I might get out again this summer!

A fantastic sport and hobby....always helps clear my mind, especially when out on a long one.

The club side I think in general a really good thing to do, but guess it depends on the club. I think most try to cater for all rider abilities, so all can enjoy the ride!

I've just got back from a few days in Majorca, I've been going for more years than I care to remember - it has morphed from a pre-season training camp in my racing days to an annual lads' trip.

We get the miles in though, around 300 miles over 4 days.

30 of us go from my cycling club which is closely linked to a rugby club. As a result, we have a broad range of rider types and abilities from Elite road racers to retired rugby players.

As you can imagine - there's a strong "social" element!

Find the right club and it has the potential to become a huge part of your life!

Being with a club is the only way to go. I had been a solo cyclist for a long time but eventually joined a club. You become a stronger cyclist & will cycle much further with a group as opposed to going solo. For anyone thinking about It, take the plunge & join your local club. Build new friendships

Yes... I get them in to customer order...rather than deal with certain brands... Most of my customers who want to buy a bike want brands like Bowman, Bianchi, Cippolini, De Rosa, Colnago, Trek Madone, Storck and Rose... a few want 'Dales like the Super Six.... Servicing pays really well and a lot of dealers/shops are switching to Service and build models over lots of front house stock due to the internet... I also offer a collect/return service too...so customers don't have to mess about...

I think this is the only sensible business plan these days, if Evans can't compete with the online giants an LBC will struggle unless they have a niche. It's the model my LBC seems to be following and know a few mobile mechanics.

Now I'm running 11 speed I pay to get work done as it's beyond me (still do my own work on my fixed bikes but they're easy), I run camoag chorus so my best bike isn't cheap and I'd pay someone to work on a car that cost less so why struggle with my bike

Chippenham Malmesbury area

Just got back into cycling after a two year break; I've a heart condition which, when i really busy hard would leave me numb down my left side, it all got a bit scary so I decide to stop. I've lost a lot of fittness and have gone from an average of 20mph to 16.

Really great to be back on the road again; I've only tried riding with a group once and found it really great as you go so much faster. Only trouble is, I'm really competative having raced road and cross country running and cross country skiing, I pushed hard, going for all the hills and sprints. So it's best that I cycle by myself and avoid getting carried away.

I'm planning to keep it really sedate this year so I've converted an old road bike into a tourer; fitted mudgaurds, a back rack and a bigger lower gear. I aim to spend a few weekends away camping using a combination of trains and pedal power but limiting myself to about 60 miles a day. Would be great to have some company; thinking of tourering the South West and South Wales.

Your best bet, if you can, is to try a variety. The best place to do that in the UK is JD Tandems in Gargrave, North Yorks. Their website has loads of info.

Weather permitting out for the next three days as really need the exercise. Today and tomorrow- cycle alone. Sunday - out for a gentle ride with a girl I’ve just started dating. She’s bought a bike and wants build up to long distance. She’s also suggested some al fresco sex along the way so need to find a secluded spot to peel off the lycra.

We're into most types of cycling, I love racing whether it's on or off road, Mrs says she's not competitive that is until she gets back to upload her strava, we like a little bit of touring, social group rides, just great being out and about. (or even in on zwift)

The bikes also help us get to quieter places less popular with walkers for stripping off.

Got a few bike related pics through our gallery.

"Just got back into cycling after a two year break; I've a heart condition which, when i really busy hard would leave me numb down my left side, it all got a bit scary so I decide to stop.

Would be great to have some company; thinking of tourering the South West and South Wales."

Fellow cyclist and heart condition sufferer here

"I haven’t been out with a club yet. Too nervous. Think I’ll be too slow. I average 12-15MPH at mo zwift training and outdoors training solo. "

Can't PM you through filters, but can give a good massage, and a bit of a cyclist in my past, and can still turn a pedal or two even now. Regular spinner at the gym just to stat fit.

I’ve just got back from cycling in South Wales last weekend. Did a few loops in Pembrokeshire and loved it! Would definitely go back again as the coast is stunning

Just off to cycle and walk in the Alps, back to the Marche in Italy in July (bit hot) for some coastal jaunts. Then to ride part of The Ardechoise route together in August.. Just love the togetherness of cycling in The Ardeche. At home ride the lanes around Winchester for fun...

Mine was mostly about cake!

Not joined one since moving back, I’m a solo cyclist now. So if anyone is in my area and fancies meeting up, drop me a message.

Did 22.5 miles yesterday cycling to and from work. The wind was horrible. Took a slightly different route home to go up a hill I usually fly down.

Was going to cycle again today but checked my bike yesterday evening to find my rear tyre is down to the canvas

It was stupidly windy yesterday! I ended up in a hilly diversion that took me onto the A5 at rush hour and nearly got wiped out by a taxi.
